Losing Traffic and Sales? The year so far...

This board is inundated with people bitching about their sales. Sure I don't make as much as I did ten years ago, but I'm doing pretty fucking good. Yay for me, right?

Over the past few months, I've tried contacting a number of people who have mentioned that things aren't working out that well for them. I didn't contact any annoying trolls, sig whores, or smart-asses, and I kept it to folks who have sites in niches I actively promote.
Out of 26 emails sent (Since Jan 1, 2009):

18 didn't even reply. And yes, I sent a follow-up email. Or two.

4 webmasters sent me links to their trade scripts.

2 webmasters informed me that my Page Rank was too low. The first time I read this response I actually spit beer onto my monitor. I didn't think shit like that really happened. Spit-takes, I mean.

2 webmasters told me to straight up fuck off. The most recent one today. Hence this post...
I don't know what to say. Times aren't that bad and sales aren't down that much.

I doubt many of you will read this. If you DID happen to receive a proposition from me recently and chose to reply in an inappropriate manner: Consider that email to be your "Window of Opportunity". Consider this post the sound of that window slamming shut.

And I fucking love this job.

CunningStunt 11-22-2009 06:32 PM

Maybe your offer wasn't appealing.

What were you trying to gain by contacting them? Subaffiliates? Partners?

I have no idea who you are or what you do, sorry.

From what I've seen, I think more profits are made in winter, than summer. During the summer more surfers go outside their houses, so they don't watch porn as much.

yeah, don't even get me started. selfish, selfish, sefish. In 99-01, it was a TOTALLY different mentality, and I heard the term "online community" alot. People working together, well, more than they do now. And affiliates answering emails, etc. I have tired it too. I have a little better response rate, but fucking a! Shit will not just fall into your lap. "Proactive" is a foundation word in this industry, people. It is long lost, imho. And if your not returning emails and being professional, you deserve what you get imho. One of the reasons none of my sites are open invite anymore.

Webmasters are very lazy overall, and have a horrible business morale "in general".
Lets talk Monday

This is an industry of mercenaries. Even more so when the chips are down. The sooner that people realize this, the better.

That said, for those that this everyone is on the same page... you need to hit a few conferences. The messages you typically get there, in public and private, will be much different then the "cum-bahy-ya" shit you read on the boards.

I love when a program says one thing at almost every conference, then talks about 'we the people" on the boards. Like their goals and priorities are for the affiliates they are working on cutting out. Or that they even consider the interest of the industry on the whole when they only focus on the bottom line only.

Truly priceless comedy.

However, it is fact of the matter. Once you realize how different the BROgrams priorities are from the small to medium companies, or affiliate model. The better off you will be.

There was no "offer", nor were promises made. I do not believe that people bitching about failure have the right to pick and choose. I put forward a proposition that may have set ambitious people on the road to success. Unfortunately "work" doesn't seem to be a very popular word at the moment.

I stood to gain nothing but future contacts and business partners - and maybe a new project or two to keep me interested. I have helped numerous websites establish themselves over the past eleven years, and I have never asked for anything in return but honesty.

I own my niche. You can compete against me - which isn't going to work out too well - or you can work with me.

I am The Last Honest Man. Deal with it.

ROFL

Bingo.

I never mentioned making anyone rich. I could have helped people in my niche succeed, though.

I'm re-reading my posts and - to me - I'm coming across like an arrogant fuck.

Guys, my network would have been a really good place to be. Its as simple as that. I succeed. I make sales. I generally do it in a very quiet manner.

Barefootsies nailed it. His response deserves multiple readings. If not, I'll etch his reply onto a bat and smash you in the head with it until you understand.

As for anyone mentioning the 1990's - the only difference in my sales between now and then is the exchange rate. More sales, but less cash. I'm not going to go on, but what AL4A and The Hun did for me in '98, I could do (almost) the same thing now.

Sorry if you missed it.

Hey PF, I'm going to take a week or so off but if I forget to contact you, you can hit me up at garce at garce dot org.

I'm not interested in ref links. More interested in a massive clusterfuck of webmasters all working towards the same goal.

I think the problem is a lot of webmasters wont work with you if you are new or you dont have a lot of traffic. I remember getting denied trades because my alexa ranking was "to low" or some of my sites have not been around for 5 years.

I get a few IMs a week about trading traffic or galleries and I point everyone to my list of sites (in my sig too) where you can signup to trade traffic, submit galleries or link trades.

Now, of the 6 people who hit me up each week, 5 of them are idiots. Why would I send traffic to your fling.com affiliate URL? Why are you trying to trade traffic with my hairy site with a gay site?

IMO, most people dont take the time to read or at least make an attempt. It seems like the worst thing you can do is try to help someone out these days because then they completely stop trying to learn and rely on you to make their site successful

With all due respect, I am not fucking new.

You're right that its pointless trying to help anyone out. I was - frankly - amazed that I received no positive responses. And Fling is the absolute last thing on my mind.

DBS.US 11-22-2009 11:14 PM

Some people don't care and are very happy bitching about there life. Don't try to help these people or even care about then because they just will drag you down to there level.

I'm not saying you are, but a lot of these people have a stick up their ass. A few months ago I tried to trade taffic with a few niche sites and was turned down. Now that my traffic is 2x of theirs, they are asking for links :1orglaugh

I get a few people who try to trade traffic and put in some shit URL that redirects to a cam or dating site. I test out all links before I accept. Its a pain in the ass, but i personally cant stand having to manually hit someone up for a traffic trade on smaller sites

Bingo.

Keep up you positive thinking friend.

Just remember that you do not need the validation of the others in this industry as a benchmark to your achievements. If you are waiting for it, get yourself a new Timex. It's going to be awhile.

The boards, and this industry is a lot like crabs in a barrel. When one breaks out from the pack, you have a ton of haters bashing and pulling you down. Whether it is you have a low Alexa rank, conversions, traffic, affiliates, share ideas, try and help, use boards for business, or speak the truth... there will always be 10 times the negative to anything positive. Some people simply are not going to like you, and shape their perceptions of you by their own self hatred.

Whether you uses your self confidence, bank account, or achievements to validate your success... frankly you will need to get the reinforcement from those things versus a pat on the back from this industry.

The good thing is, as the cliche goes, "you will see the bodies of many enemies floating by", or down the river over time... The same people who laughed or mocked you will little more than a speck in the rear view.

Keep your head up bud. It sounds like you are on the right path.
