weird SEO fluctuations

i bought an amateur domain name about six months ago, which had wordpress on it but only a couple of pages and had been indexed for about 12 months by the major search engines, but with very little traffic, I populated it with about 100 videos and within a month it was receiving 1500 uniques a day.
the traffic then disappeared to around 100 unqiues per day and all efforts to improve the SEO failed (have succesfully promoted many sites over the years via SEO alone) I assumed this was pretty typical of porn blog sites though as it is so competitive and pretty much gave up on the project...

just checked today and there was a week of decent traffic again but then it disappeared again and we are back to 100 per day, but the site has been unchanged for about 3 months now?
I've never seen SE's react quite like this - can anyone shed any light on it for me?

With SEO you never know what the deal is.. and yes that is FRUSTRATING!

When I get a lot of traffic I try to direct it to my link exchanges to get more traffic from multiple sources. A good business is never depended upon one traffic source, even if that is from a SE. I also try to dose to outgoing links and the inbound links. I always try to maximize the inbound links and try to keep the outgoing links as minimal as possible.

Good luck!

try taking the SEO work a little slower. Natural is MORE BETTER!

the more better part is a joke.. but natural is better

I have never figured out if google treats porn sites different when it comes to SEO? Maybe someone here knows? Could be that google found out you were hosting porn, and slowed it down.
