Non-advertiser threads should be bounced....
 

As an long time advertiser on GFY I'm tired of seeing this board over clogged with non-advertiser threads.

If they don't advertiser here their threads should be 100% bounced to an opportunities / spam forum.

I have already talked to many other advertisers and we are all in agreement. The ability to use a full size banner in our sigs is not enough of an incentive going into 2010.

GFY it is in your hands now.

you'd think that having those types of one-time program announcements would attract the viewer base that you're ads would obviously have no problems converting..

how about this: before thread loads we must all click advertiser's FPA's get some words from your site enter them here at captcha and only then we can read others (spam) threads

I think you guys misunderstood Dave, isn't he talking about all the Announcement threads started by people who don't pay for a top banner on the board? There seems to be a lot of people posting about their paysites/programmes who don't sponsor the forum.

Sponsors can post in main forum, non sponsors in spam / opp forum.

Only people that will complain are the non-sponsors.

I'm all for it if it'll get rid of the signbucksdaily spam whores.

I vote that anything not related to PORN.COM , LIVECAMS.COM or PRDAVE.COM just get deleted.

there should be some restrictions but not all programs are huge and can afford to advertise on gfy.

But surely most of the exposure your ads receive on these forums comes from the people coming back to read random crap.

If they move that to a different forum alot of people would just come here for that forum and that could lead to even less exposure for sponsors.

Wouldn't it be better to use the "Sticky" feature for official sponsor promotion threads. I know it is done now, but maybe it says stuck for a longer period or something?

You do not have to buy their top package!

As a sponsor here i get real tired of seeing someone from our company post a huge announcement thread just to find out that 5 minutes later its been drowned in other contests from people that never put a dime down for adds.

If you asked to ban contest threads I bet REAL webmasters would back this as well.

I think this is a great piece of feedback. I love shit like this from you guys.

I see some misconceptions in this thread, as usual. Let me clear some of those up.

1) There is not a single contest thread on GFY for a company that is not a top banner sponsors. If there is and I somehow missed it, please let me know. I am not hard to find almost 24/7.

2) Top Banner sponsors get their announcements pinned. I will be evaluating longer pinning going into the new year.

3) Any sponsor of GFY can make program announcements.

I think Dave is on to something that has some serious steam. I will be thinking it over and will be making my decision in the coming weeks. Having your announcement thread moved to a program announcement area is only one of a few items I will be mulling over and either making a change or adjusting.

Meanwhile, if you have other ideas that you would like to share, please feel free.

That's business. Why would anyone pay to advertise if the next guy can advertise for free? If a program can't afford to pay for advertising, then they have a shitty business plan.

all gfyers have made gfy what it's now and they are actually still making it

if people won't be able to post their promo in the most visited section they won't be visiting gfy as much and advertisers will get even less impressions at the end of the day :2cents

I don't envy you. I moderate alot of boards with paying advertisers and its always a fine line between trying to keep you're paying clients happy, and keeping the board active.

constant spam/announcements/etc i agree should go in the proper place. I think that the occasional thread in the main area is perfectly fine though.

I guess only authorized companies can start those contest threads. That's fair.

No one will leave GFY if the spammers posts are bounced either. Less spam will make GFY easier to read.

no, i think "established" should be enforced. here are people who made more posts than me in 6 months by posting only bullshit and smilies. or look in any contest thread - there are dozens of nicks with 5 digit post counts that I never heard of in nearly 6 years that I am here.

personally I think that's just based on greed and forcing one view point.

what about all the small webmasters starting unique programs and such that can't afford a large banner but make huge contributions to GFY in time and effort.

it feels like an attempt to squish anyone starting out.

let the forum and threads stand on their own. I personally don't even like the idea of pinning a thread for a program - it should be bumped with REAL comments - not bots - and if it isn't then in reality it's something no one really wants to promote or gives a shit about anyway.

I do agree with the contest rules though - an exception might be considered for anyone running a non-commercial contest though (as I have done in the past) but the commercial ones often get out of hand and really need some control


if GFY were to stop the small webmsters from talking about their programs - I'd leave and support another board.

we're webmasters - our websites are our LIVES - it's why we're here - it's what we want to talk about and be proud about. Any restrictions on that would KILL this place.

How about we all STOP sending traffic to pimproll? Come on Dave, surely you have more business knowledge than this. These very sites that you want to remove from GFY also run blogs, etc... that send traffic to your program. Do you really want to hurt them?

making this forum "advertisers only" would be the kiss of death. Nobody wants to read a board with nothing but advertising, or the random thoughts only of people that can pay for the priveledge. What an absurd idea, & double absurd the board moderator thinks it has merit.

they're not the biggest so why trust your traffic to them.......

i've never chosen a program based on it's size - i do it based on quality above other things and if I like it or not

Unless you are paying for advertising you are not sitting in my shoes.

I pay big bucks for my GFY banners, not wrong of me to expect more for my ad dollars.

Also I am all about clearing out the dead weight programs that consistently spam this board.
