PETA's new "banned" Thanksgiving Ad

My fiancee is a vegan, so that means in addition to the normal thanksgiving spread, I'll be cooking up vegan brown gravy, tofurkey and using vegetable stock in my recipes that normally require chicken stock....so not a huge tradeoff...she sent me a link to this video today and I actually got a kick out of it...

I love their marketing department....

will76 11-25-2009 05:55 PM

Its a clever ad to try to recruit people if that is their goal, the whole try to guilt people apporach works well with religions, why not with their cult, err i mean food club or whatever it is.

So if I let my turkey live in a nice resort fenced in area, where he lives a good life and when he dies of grand old age I cook him up and eat him, never having used chemicals, would they still bitch then about eating meat ?

What is wrong with eating meat. I don't understand vegertarians or what ever their hip name is these days. If it is about eating living things, plants are living things and god's creatures too. Or is there another angle with this no eat meat junk. Or is it just "cool" and another typical thing that comes out of california ?

Serious?
They are complete retards.....even their employees are grossed out by what they produce.
The strategy is shock and banking on the fact that bad press will get the name out there faster

PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals. There's a dude that I play poker with regularly that has that hat, cracked me up the first time I saw it.

Fuck PETA.

will76 11-25-2009 06:07 PM

If anyone has seen this eposide, it is funny as shit.... "vegan pussies".

http://features.csmonitor.com/global...cle_photo1.jpg

PETA is a bunch of whack job nuts.

It's one thing to love animals, want to protect them from Mike Vick type shit, but turkey's, pigs, cows etc... they are not animals, they are food. They are farmed (raised) for food just like plants. Plants are slaughtered too when their fruit is ripped off of their branches or their roots are ripped out of the ground. How horrific!!!

There are animals that are for food and then there are animals that are for pets, why not focus on the protecting the pets the ones that we dont eat, that are not here to provide us with food. any extremist is a whack job, peta fits right in with the rest of the extremits.

SykkBoy 11-25-2009 06:22 PM

I believe you can be against animal cruelty and still eat meat...
so I do...hehe

I'm a big supporter of farmers markets, etc. Having grown up on a ranch, I have more of a problem with some of these factory farms that isn't about meat vs. non-meat...
what many don't realize is the living conditions of some of these animals can have effects on us as well....cows fed with extra hormones and fed corn versus grass (because corn is cheaper, but cows can't digest it properly so it causes other issues)

I wonder how many people would continue to eat meat if they had to visit the cow that was going to be in their big mac...or kill it themselves...or watch the cows packed into tight spaces knee deep in cow shit, that is basically washed away with a little water when those cows are butchered...

BTW, I don't have a veg agenda and it leads to some interesting discussions with my fiance...hehe...I talk about ethical hunting and ethical farming...

her thing with animals, say she and I owned a farm and knew the animals lived a cruelty-free life safe from hormones, unsafe feed, etc. she wouldn't have a problem eating eggs produced by the chickens we had...same with if we had a cow that was meant to be butchered...she of course wouldn't be able to watch or participate...

It is funny about the trendy vegetarians versus those who've actually thought about it, don't support animal cruelty, etc.

I always find meat vs. non-meat arguments entertaining....

Time to go cook her up some meatless bbq ribs while I eat some roasted chicken, hehe

SykkBoy 11-25-2009 06:22 PM

oops---double post

tiger 11-25-2009 06:27 PM

Stupid ad but it shouldn't be banned.

SykkBoy 11-25-2009 06:30 PM

Fascinating documentary about our food supply...
btw, it's not a vegan/vegetarian propaganda piece, the filmmakers are meat eaters as well...however, it could breed more veg-heads, hehe

it's always important to know where your food comes from...

spacedog 11-25-2009 07:02 PM

Fuck Peta and their propaganda.. I'm gonna stuff my fucking face with turkey

alias 11-25-2009 07:15 PM

I agree, for our own safety I wish the conditions were better as it could cause some heath risks for us. Like most corporations they trying to make max profit so they cut corners, do just enough if, if that, to not get shut down. The shit that ends up around meat and mixed in some cases is why I eat my steaks at least medium and everything else well done. Would be nice if they could do without the chemicals, roids, and the other crap that ends up in us, but like you said our thoughts are totally different than petas... on why some of this should be changed.

Waddymelon 11-25-2009 08:46 PM

I miss the old days where if someone showed up at the BBQ and said, "Hi! I'm Vegan!" we'd kick their ass.

Now we have 'tofurkey' and 'meatless ribs' - I mean come on, a meatless rib is just a fucking bone.

Weirdos.

Iron Fist 11-25-2009 11:29 PM

Maybe i'll kick PETA around like a ball because I think it's funny...

Just feed your vegan fiancee real turkey and pretend it's fake. Then reveal the truth later. The look on her face is something you can be thankful for.

PETA are basically a front group for terrorists.

Those who say Fuck Peta or that peta are a bunch of terrorists, you should know that these guys do a lot of good for other non-eatable animals. I'm a meat eater, love to eat turkey and chicken. So while it is true that the ad is silly and that all those movements against meat eaters are stupid, I know there are foxes, dogs, cats and many other animals like whales, dolphins, etc that are killed for many reasons other than eating and Peta is doing a LOT to stop these absurd killings. It is for those animals that I support Peta, not for stupid ads like this one. I think this ad was a mistake. :2 cents:

ShellyCrash 11-26-2009 05:59 AM

I do a meatless thanksgiving every year. Last year I did a Veat "chicken" breast w/ a pomigranite cider reduction-

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3220/...bdbc5c7211.jpg
Couldn't find one this year so I'm going back to the good ol' Tofurkey.

Surprisingly Martha Stewart is doing a Veggie Thanksgiving this year and did an entire episode featuring vegetarian thanksgiving dishes. She also worked in a segment about Food, Inc which I was pretty impressed with. I'm really starting to like her in her old age.

Here's a link to some of the recipes. I making the persimmon swiss chard stuffing this year-
http://www.marthastewart.com/menu/ve...chard-stuffing

Some other things you might find interesting- Stove Top "Pork" stuffing has no meat in it, I'm pretty sure it's vegan too, just need to use margarine or sim sub instead of butter. Also Better than Boullion "No Chicken" stock is the best chicken stock sub I've ever used, I go through at least a can a year-

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA220_.jpg

Very very awesome stuff. :thumbsup

Raf1 11-26-2009 06:19 AM

I'm a meat eater and an ad like that isn't going to change it, however I do think there needs to be more control regarding animal cruelty in these "meat factories".

dynastoned 11-26-2009 06:25 AM

just eat the god damn turkey or don't eat it. bunch of silly whiny little bitches. im sure there will be plenty of mashed potatoes and bread rolls for the vegans.

btw fuck peta

agree your this statement, hmm in my eyes it's not "that" cruel if animals get killed to feed human when they are cultured for. Otherwise these animals wouldn't be born in those "meat factories". So.. sure they don't have a good live but otherwise they wouldn't be born :Oh crap. However the ad is funny but doesn't change my oppinion. Vegans are these people who doesn't want to eat living apples, so they just take those who allready lie on the ground or? :1orglaugh

The absolute ONLY way to get people's attention is with shock these days. PETA knows it and that's why they do the things they do. Although, I didn't find the video shocking in the least. Just speaking the truth... sort of like the anti-cigarette ads of a few years ago.

People don't think about what they are eating. Plain and simple. Most people don't even equate that Big Mac to an animal. It's just "food".

Someone earlier said cows, chickens, turkeys aren't animals, they are food. Probably one of the most ignorant comments I've ever heard. The people who are the most vehemently against groups like PETA are usually the most ignorant. I know many non-vegetarians that support what PETA does. These people also understand where their food comes from and have made a conscience decision to eat it anyway.

The facts are there though... keep eating the chemically treated, cruelty supporting, antibiotic injected, "cheap meat" and watch your quality of health decline as has the quality of life declined for most of the United States over the past 50 years. Without big pharma cranking out drugs to support our sorry asses, the USA would have the life expectancy of many 3rd world countries, because of our addiction to "cheap food". How do you think you can buy ground beef for 99 cents a pound at costco?

And don't even get me started on what it's doing to our planet.

happy thanksgiving!

mb

Yup
a great example is all of that corn feed they feed to cattle...it increases the risk and exposure of e.coli and other diseases...and guess what a component of a common fast food burger is? Ammonia...so it will kill the e.coli bacteria...basically, instead of cleaning up the meat butchering/packing standards....fast food companies add some ammonia into their product. The documentary Food, Inc. even interviews a guy who's company manufactures the ammonia "bricks" for these companies.

Kenny B! 11-26-2009 08:53 AM

Problem is the food tastes good, people don't care how it got on to their plate, only that it's yummy!

Trying to guilt people into changing their minds can only go so far. It all has to be about SELF-INTEREST. Focus on "what's in it for you" and PETA will get more converts.

WarChild 11-26-2009 03:32 PM

PETA is a ridiculous organization. Watch the Penn and Teller episode of Bullshit where they ridicule PETA and some of its ass backwards reasoning.

Like the senior VP at PETA who insists we should use no animal products or products tested on animals. It's alright that she takes insulin however, because even though a product of animal testing, something she's strictly against, she needs it to live so she can do more good for other animals.

fatfoo 11-26-2009 03:55 PM

2 random thoughts:

1. Pamela Anderson works for PETA and discourages abuse against chickens
2. Hitler was a vegetarian and supposedly his propaganda said he loves animals

Because of this post, I went and looked for this movie and watched it.. Good movie and very well put together and oh my what a fucking eye opener.. Holy shit the things that go on.

I moved to this property back in May and took on growing my own food, although not on a large scale.. Just mostly for fun/leisure/supplement. Recently I purchased a very small flock of chickens and tomorrow my Ducks arrive. I have a pair of goats arriving mid December and a pair of pigs arriving in March. After seeing this fucking movie, I need more land cause fuck that.. I'll grow/raise everything my family eats.. fuck this. I need more chickens and pigs. I wanted cows too but got denied the zoning for it, but my fucking neighbor has horses and less land.. WTF.

This springs field for crops is gonna be much bigger cause I want to grow more.. Results were poor this season.

That was me and you and PETA can go :321GFY . Pigs,Cows, Chickens, whatever, that are breed 100% to be used for food, and treated such their whole lives, I don't consider them animals. They were born and raised to be food on the table. Sure technically it is an animal, but I just saying that to make a distinction between animals that are PETS and animals that are FOOD. Have you had a pet chicken or pet Pig lately ?

If PETA focused 99% on animal cruelty to PETS that vast majority of us care about then everyone would support them. When you do retarded ads about the protection of animails that sole purpose of existing was to be raised and slaughtered for food then you look like a fucking extremist nut job. Think about it, the cow pig turkey whatever was breed, raised, and then slaughtered for food on your table, but peta is upset because their living conditions were bad. If they were upset about all the dog fighting or cat killings, neglected animails (PETS), then people would support them.

PETA uses dogs and cats and other animals that people care about, like anti porn religious nuts use "kids" in their crusades to do away with all porn. Most people don't care about porn but when you start throwing "protect the kids" into it then it will get some people to jump on their extremist nut job band wagon that all porn is bad. No different here.

Just make sure to be nice to your pigs and ducks before you slaughter them because if you are mean to them and dont give them enough hugs and kisses before you eat them PETA will be all over your ass for cruelty. :2 cents:

Peta might be WAY over the edge in many things that they do, but they do a lot of good stuff as well. Anyone seen that chinchilla video at petatv.com? Not sure if it is there anymore, but it showed a fat fuck sitting on a chair, breaking chinchilla necks and loving it..... Trat animals nice, kille them in a decent way and use a lot of gravy when you eat them!

Yeah, had 300 grams of pig loin a few hours ago... Tasty as hell, with mushrom gravy and mashed potatoes!
