I bought a '03 Toyota Tacoma in '03

...and it had a 7 year or 100,000 mile guarantee. The owner of the franchise convinced me to buy an additional guarantee warranty that he said would cover everything that the factory warranty did not cover. This cost me around $1100.00. After a couple of years the CD ejector quit working and a new CD player was installed free of charge. Sometime after that the cigarette lighter quit working and they wanted to charge me $20.00 to fix it. I explained that I had this additional warranty but the repair shop told me that the cigarette lighter was an item that wears out and was not covered. I said hell everything on the truck is an item that wears out and told the shop manager to put me in touch with the franchise owner. He denied telling me that the additional warranty coverage would cover every thing on the truck that the original warranty did not cover...but told the shop manager to fix my lighter free of charge.

The last time I took the truck in for an oil change I told them that the clutch spring was making a hell of a squeaking noise and they said no problem they would lubricate it. When I went in to pick the truck up they told me that they had lubricated the clutch spring but that something on the clutch was wearing out and it was a $15.00 part but would be $115.00 in labor costs to repair and that it was not covered by either of my warranties. I once again told the shop manager to put me in touch with the franchise owner...but the owner insisted that I would have to pay the cost.

The warranties expire April of next year...so at this point in time I paid $1100.00 to get a CD player replaced and a cigarette lighter.

Moral of the story...do not buy an additional warranty.

I bought a used 2004 Jeep and bought the "extended" warrantee for it also. I only owned it for 4 months and in that short time they put 4 transmissions in it (the first 3 they did wrong causing them to fail) They also repaired a head gasket. All in all, it was in the shop more than in my driveway. The warrantee not only covered all repairs 100% but was transferable to the new owner and ended up being the main reason he bought the car from me...

So, sometimes they can be good, just a crap shoot.

He bought a '03 Toyota Tacoma in '03. Please also note, that Godzilla and Mophra (these 2 creatures) do not like to be fucked from the back. Mr. President - please, more troops to Afghanistan. Karen O - I love you. Jackie Chan has good fighting skills. Tupac lives again. Lincoln's ghost - great haunting skills. Too much weed smoking may cause short term memory loss. To all doctors - please do not rape your patents and please do not inject them with harmful chemicals to do tests on them like a bunch of lab monkeys. Hitler is wrong. Over and out.

I guess you got a pretty good car then. Most warranties come in handy from my experience.

My state car club offers an "expiring warranty check" - they go over your car a month or two before your warranty expires and tell you if anything needs to be done. The dealers hate it but it's your right as a consumer to ask for problems to be fixed...

Good car man! If that was all you had to do during all this time...

Warranty for most things isn't worth shit. Especially cars. (speaking from experience)

TisMe 11-26-2009 09:42 AM

New car dealers make a fortune off of extended warranties. Usually they make more off that than the car itself.

A 93 that has cost you $150 in un-covered maintenance over 16 years and you're complaining?

I believe he said 03, although even $150 in 6 years is not bad either.
