Virus: Along With Fucking Your Computer It Constantly Sends You to Adult.com

Today I woke up and somehow have the virus AntiVirus System Pro on my computer, which has totally fucked my computer. Can't do much of anything and no option I've found to remove it, has worked yet...and it's constantly bringing up Adult.com in IE, which I find quite amusing.

I've tried using several antivirus programs and Malwarebytes, does anyone know how to remove this bitch, besides formatting?

It's not a virus.

Semi-Retired-Dave 11-28-2009 03:16 PM

luv$ 11-28-2009 03:24 PM

Well, what is the affiliate ID?

SlammedMedia 11-28-2009 03:25 PM

I'd be interested in knowing the extent of Adult.com's relationship with them.

sounds like they fixed your computer to what it SHOULD be showing all the time

I've never seen Adware / Spyware that disables your computer so badly....it's crazy. I think formatting is going to be my only option.

sounds like zango or vundo or a combo of both. Vundo was a pain in the ass and took forever to get rid of.

When I had vundo, it would redirect any of my searches to other sites other then what I clicked on

I got this yesterday also. Took all day & night to fix. Malwarebytes will get it, but you have to do it a couples of times and other things as well.

Reboot your computer and click on malwarebytes shortcut icon to start the program BEFORE your computer completely reboots--ie;, before the Antivirus Pro takes over. Run the scan, delete what results are there--BUT DO NOT REBOOT computer as malwarebytes says to! Then do EVERYTHING this page link tells you to do.

http://www.ehow.com/how_5146071_manu...ystem-pro.html

Step 6 is VERY important!! It caught one of the last traces of it (where you run a harddrive search for sysguard)

THEN!! Run spybot search and destroy and it gets the last registry key remaining. Then it should kill it.

Yes, extremely tough to kill and doesn't allow you to do ANYTHING.

try to remove it with HijackThis + AdAware

PS:
Did you had any anti-virus installed on your computer?
What browser did you use (my guess is IE)?

boneless 11-28-2009 05:20 PM

rollback to a previous date of the computer?

Agent 488 11-28-2009 05:37 PM

JustDaveXxx 11-28-2009 05:46 PM

Stories like that make me very happy that i made the switch to Mac.

Hope it works out dude.

HandballJim 11-28-2009 06:55 PM

that only affects the OS ... Any programs, documents, emails, VIRUS will remain .

Mutt 11-28-2009 07:16 PM

i used to be the poster boy for malware and viruses - i stopped using IE, started doing the automated Windows updates, finally started using antivirus software and knock on wood i haven't had anything in about 6 months.

this guide never failed me - CombiFix after running all the other software first always saved me.

Bad enough that you are using a pc

DONT USE IE

Mutt 11-28-2009 07:18 PM

wonder if somebody is trying to frame Adult.com - no way would anybody at Adult.com be stupid enough to be involved in this.

maybe they've done a traffic deal with somebody and have no idea where the traffic is coming from.

I had basicly the same thing (browser hijacker) and eventually it messed up my boot sector so I had to do a sys recover to the default state my puter was at purchase via the back up disks I made.

If you have good current backups you will be back and running 90% in a (long) day. And then maybe 5 more days (not full time) of configuring and reinstalling.

Good things:

1. Virus gone.
2. You start with a nice defragged hd.
3. This time you can skip installing the software that was junky or hardly used.
4. You end up with a better computer.

Basicly it was almost worth it to me.

Also in the future when using ie, I would not put any site in trusted. Use the default ie settings and adjust just a couple of settings for the internet and local settings and 99% of sites will work.

So it sucks but you do get something out of the recovery.

Also I would do a sys recovery of the back up disks rather than a reformat. Seems progs install better and some settings are remebered. (don't ask me how, but on virtually all progs I only needed to enter the reg info, all settings were in tact on most all progs which really helps. This is on vista home.) Plus it only recovers the C drive so other drives don't need be touched.

I'm no expert but just trying to say it is not as bad as it seems and you will come out the other side in a week tops with a better, cleaner running puter.

Good luck man.

Malwarebytes (and other programs) didn't work for me, I ran it 4-5 times and it wouldn't find it. I also tried doing a system restore, but like I was saying earlier, because I had this on my computer it wouldn't allow me to run a lot of things..system restore included. I tried to do a system restore in safe mode and nothing happened the first time, the system restore window wouldn't even open. Before almost giving up and getting ready to back things up, to format...I tried a system restore in safe mode again -- It took about 15 minutes for the system restore window / option to open for me ... when it finally did I was able to run system restore and it fixed the issues I was having!

Vjo 11-28-2009 09:15 PM

Plus now I could prob set it up in 1/3 the time or less should there be a next time.

Pains:

Reconfiguring Vista and IE plus getting your auido/ video/ codecs up jiving.

Hint free-codecs.com latest update will override windows media player's propensity to want to be the default prog for .avis no matter what.

That was my hardest thing. Install the latest
"K-Lite Codec Pack" and it will bring a specific page up during the install specificly for WMP toi remove all their BS.

But that's me your deal may be diff. Go for it, every hour fucking around is a lost hour. At least when you do the recov your time is productive again. :)

Also was it the virus that messed my boot sector? Well all I know is after blasting them on GFY, I booted and bang could not do a boot, sys restore or anything. After a thousand boots before and having the virus a monthalready. The only thing diff was I did do a sys retore before eventually booting too. So maybe I had trojans too. :upsidedown Hehe They pushed the kill button on me.

And while were at it is sys restore a JOKE or what. Sometimes it works but most times it doesn't. Esp when you need it.

This is exactly what worked for me to remove it, after trying everything else, combifix worked.

Good going! That's good to know. I did not try safe mode when trying to get back in (booted up) with the only method available, sys restore. Also boot disks would not work either. But most of us don't know much about all that. We just want the thing to boot.

Anyhow, good for you.

I got that virus a couple of weeks ago. I never considered Adult.com having anything to do with it. The virus was trying to sell you malware protection. I bought Avast and ran it for 1.5 days and the virus was gone.
