it's actually AMAZING just how much more traction you get on ice with good winter tires

Yeah, you can use it as an attachment to your vehicle.

Why so expensive for tires? Please say that price is for all 4.

Just do not get it. Then again I do not really care about name or much else besides will they fit my car, safe, warranty, and price.

Iron Fist 11-29-2009 01:15 PM

For someone who's bankrupt... that's pretty decent cash for tires.

of course it's all 4 :2 cents:

BlackCrayon 11-29-2009 01:52 PM

i paid 1000 bucks for 4 winter tires and 4 steel rims a couple of years ago but yeah, they are worth every penny. Toyo was the brand I got, same winter tires the cops use.

PenisFace 11-29-2009 01:56 PM

Fuck spending any money on winter tires, I just drive a shitty beater with shitty allseason's all winter :pimp

I spent something like 2,400 for my Advan A048's when they were new, though. And we're talking small rubber, like 245 17's, too. Trackday tires are totally worth the retarded price tags, though. :D

I took my weekender out for a drive during last years snow, and pretty much had the best time ever. With rear wheel drive. On summer tires :1orglaugh

CPimp 11-29-2009 01:58 PM

LOL I bought some fucked up rand I never heard of, all season tires, because I dont roll in the money like apparently some of you guys do... having the cars and shit you do LOL. SOmeday though, someday!

I should clarify that my weekender/track day car is an ancient '92 nissan skyline thats cost me a grand total of probably an 8th of what most people here spend on their brand new cars.

It'll still destroy all their pos's in everything but fuel economy, though :(

I was thinking it should be but fuck if I know. We do not need winter tires and well this is gfy where people will post stuff with outrageous prices, not saying those arnt either.
I could not spend a few hundred per tire, no fucking way.

The trick is to spend a ton on really good tires, but make them last for years by only using them during the right conditions. Then use terrible 500 treadwear tires for most of your driving. Just dont expect much in the way of grip or stability when you buy cheap tires.

My tires typically last as long as they are supposed to. I just hit Big O and let them hook me up. I like their warranty and what they offer along lines of rotation, flat repair, etc.
Do not have to worry about winter tires here though. It rarely gets icy and when it does chains work fine since it is rare.
I do not go with what is the most cheap either. Just go for the ones that are mid range, have a great warranty.
Though I am anal in a way so when I get new tires I must buy 5 tires.

you're saved. I thought you were one of those weiners who rolls into the tire shop and comes out with truck tires on his camry because they were on sale :1orglaugh

Warranty = win/win. Interesting about buying 5 tires though, I've never even considered doing that :)

there is a different kind of rubber in proper winter tires that stays malleable in extreme cold weather that all season tires can't do - thus more traction

i can spend money on anything I want, just have to pay 50% of excess into the bankruptcy if I spent more than 1800 or so a month.

I had a budget for car maintenance.... some months is nothing, some larger like this month. they average it out over the entire time you're in bankruptcy as not all service issues are monthly

they can read it all they want, it's listed in my monthly expenses.

hell I can even buy hookers or excessive amounts of beer if I want - just have to record it any pay any excess amounts at the end of the bankruptcy into the estate.

I'm not required to eat Marconi and live in a tent... although before bankruptcy it felt like that was were I was at....

they use goodyear here, but they have a more aggressive off road tire for heavy snow. I was more concerned about ice than snow. different tread pattern

if you have a life or death experience on the highway cause someone else was sliding at you and you couldn't get traction to get away I'm betting you're rethink that....

all it took for me a couple years ago was one experience that would not have happened if i had winter tires... i was sold then.. havnt' looked back - always FIND the money for them

dav3 11-30-2009 03:09 AM

well, it's good to shop local.

Ive got a set of Dunlop winter tyres that came on my car. I didnt know this, I just bought the car from a garage & drove it. Its a skyline GTR, so pretty fast. Id drove about 10miles in June time, to drop my lads off. Coming home I was pulling about 110mph which is pretty much cruising in her. When the back tyre popped!!! :Oh crap The car was ok, she handled like a dream. I pulled over & called my garage out. Its a 60 to 70 mph limit on those tyres!!

I may end up putting them on in the colder months of this year as I kept the other 3 at the back of my garden behind the summer house. :winkwink:

However, I didnt realise the sort of prices they were! Yikes! :(

BLACKCRAYON, Excellant make! toyo are pretty A1 tires!

Raf1 11-30-2009 05:57 AM

mine were less than half the price, but the winter isn't as bad here.

Lace 11-30-2009 06:27 AM

I love my 31" BFG All Terrains.
