I believe flash allows you to export to an animated gif, I am sure there are other programs out there but do not know of any offhand.

easy enough to google that kind of shit. I'm sure there's a bunch of free software out there to do that.

Well, I still like imageready the best, but the newer versions of photoshop can help you makes gif. Just use the animation toolbar

Check if your video editing or video rendering program allows you to export as GIF.

Indeed. When saving just click through the list or "save for web" and this is usually a gif. Otherwise, click into "image ready" and you can do it here also.

For an animated gif, click on window at the top and tick animation. In Imageready you can save animated. This is always a gif.

just rename a document.doc to document.gif

I use Imageready, but I'm sure you'll find something simple to use if you just google the term

hahah.. it reminded me of a story when someone i know went to programming courses - you know the ones you study at for like 8-18month and then can claim you're programmer.. shortly after he got his certificate and landed some decent job for entry-level, mind you that was pre IT bubble burst era.. he calls me up asking what is he doing wrong - he needed to convert .doc to .txt or vise-versa, don't remember now, he says "i'm renaming extension and it's not working!!!"
