Chair putting your legs to sleep?

I got a new chair recently and I notice that after a hour of sitting, it puts my legs to sleep. Anyone else get this?

I've never had that problem. I have a Herman Miller chair and I sit in it over 8 hours a day... no problems.

Your going to have to use your legs or move your feet around. I dont know if you can get the same sort of problem as that of flying, maybe thats the cabin pressure.?

If you continue to work, looking at the same place. I.E, your pc screen, for too long. This can create eye strain & I suppose this can lead to problems in later life also!

I'll have to see if they have a return policy, test it at least.

If it is adjustable and you have it quite high and always lean back in the chair, the front edge of the chair will be pushing up on your legs. You have a main archery running in roughly the same area which the pressure will be crushing slightly, affecting blood flow, which leads to pins and needles or numbness.

if the chair has a front edge where you legs over it'll do it

Yeah, that happens a lot too.... exactly like that minus going high. I lean back and my legs go to sleep.

General rule of saftey for working long hours in front of a computer...

take 10 minutes out of every hour to stand up and walk around, whether it be outside, or simply in another room. This allows you to regain proper blood flow in your body as well as keeping your eyes somewhat fresh as constant staring at a monitor will cause tension in the eyes, leading to headaches, migraines, eyes hurting, etc.

I'd like to find something I can rest my head back too. Most chairs are too short for me.

I use my pc to edit & capture film, dvd stucture based work. However, I use my laptop loads for general chat & website editing.

At the moment, here I am laying in bed, relaxing back against my pillows using my laptop. My legs still go numb after a while! Trust me, you still have to get up occasionally! Thats working on a pc and not doing manual labour for you! :(

I don't seem to have a problem with my legs going to sleep but my feet always want to take a snooze after a couple of hours of sitting :disgust

I have this problem - I had found an air cushion that actually flowed the air in a pattern that increases blood flow to alleviate the problem, can't find it in my bookmarks now - must be on my other 'puter.

Yup, same thing happened to me... chair cancer.

Once you hit your 40's you should get your chairs checked out every year.

I learned the hard way, and I'm dead now, but it's not too late for you!

ya. now I sit indian style in my chair and I'm fine.

If i sit on the shitter for way to long, my legs fall asleep. After wiping the crack of dawn, I have to waddle around for a few minutes as my legs are super sensitive :warning

Yep you got the chair a little too high. Go down till it just starts to feel too low then go up a notch or two and try that.

I like a lot of lean back too so my butt don't get sore. Some 4" high density foam added as an extra pad. And a little extra padding on the right arm rest is nice to give the shoulder a rest and give the perfect rest and angle for the arm.

lol Thats about it. :)

Same deal only my foot falls asleep. Thats's from too low a throne. All the weight on the legs and no movement. 15 min time limit. lol

Vjo 12-01-2009 01:23 AM

Also what will really work if none of that does is a small foot rest under the desk so you can stretch out and put your legs up a bit.

I just realized I subconsciously put my legs up on the backs of my computers (they're strong) and that probably saves me the lower thigh pain.

mortallove 12-01-2009 03:34 AM

man you have to really watch out how long you sit on that chair,

i know several female women who sits in their computer chair to many hours a day and their asses suffer greatly... they get flat asses... their ass loose their shape...

yes life is hard on the savanna.

Planning to get one as a X-Mas present for myself

The Duck 12-01-2009 06:08 AM

My chair does that sometimes depending on my posture.

V_RocKs 12-01-2009 03:51 PM

I found the perfect chair one day at Sam's Club.

For $60 it lasted for about 4 years of unbelievable comfort. I tried finding another to no avail.. Chair #2 is not as comfy. V_RocKs is sad.

The circulating air cushion

Last chair I bought, I went to four different stores and checked for comfort and adjust ability - then went back again to two stores to double check. I with I could afford the Herman Miller - in the meantime.. Geeze, I spend more time in my chair then I do my car, and my car cost a lot more.. I digress -

I think having one of those tilted foot thingy's helps some, but when you are kind of skinny I think it is worse on your ass and legs than if you have some extra baggage.. just a thought, I am not a scientist running studies..

I can't remember where I had originally found the air cushion site - but this will give you an idea of some keywords to search for:

Google shopping results chair air cushion circulating alternating
