RIP David Aaron Clark - AVN Award Winning Director
I was saving my 22,000th post to make a big announcement about my website, when I learned some very sad news about the passing of a porn legend, and decided to make this announcement instead, since I couldn't find a post on GFY about it.
For those who have not heard, I am truly saddened to pass along the news that AVN Award winning director, and a friend of mine, David Aaron Clark, passed away last Saturday in Los Angeles. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._DAC_kimmy.jpg David was a multi-talented individual, and not just in porn. He graduated with a degree in Journalism from Rutgers, and then wrote for several mainstream publications including the Dow Jones News Service. He eventually went on to writing gigs at Genesis and Screw magazine. David Aaron Clark (or DAC as he was known to many), was one of the best writers in adult. He wrote and directed many outstanding adult films, including Asianatrix, the No Man's Land: Asian Edition series, and the Asia Noir series (for which he won an AVN award). His most recent movie, "Pure", which he wrote and directed for Evil Angel, received multiple AVN nominations, including Best Actor (Keni Styles), Best Actress (Asa Akira), Best Supporting Actor (Jake Malone), Best Couples Sex Scene, Best Music Soundtrack, Best Special Effects, Best Screenplay, and Best Director Feature and Best Video Feature. David had also previously won an AVN award for Best Screenplay. David had an edgy style both in his writing and in his video shooting and editing. He was passionate about his work, and it showed. He often focused on the darker side of sexuality - his scenes could be at once beautiful and sensual, and in another moment dark and visceral. He shared my love of Asian women, and I admired his talent very much - in fact, he is the only adult director whom I have ever asked to get an autograph from. We had just smoked a doobie together, and he thought I was kidding at first. He genuinely seemed moved by my request as he graciously autographed a few of his DVD covers for me. If you were a friend of his, David was as loyal as any friend can be, and if you got on his bad side...well, David never minced words. To some, he could appear menacing looking with his burly frame, many tattoos, and East Coast accent and sensibility, but he was actually an intelligent and humorous person, with a gentle side and artistic flair once you got to know him. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his friends and family. Rest In Peace David Aaron Clark, a true pioneer and genuine video auteur...you will be greatly missed my friend. :( ADG |

OMG!
RIP, a true artist. |
Thank you for posting. I wasn't sure if GFYers would know him. I'm still stunned by the very sad news. Here is the obit I wrote for him on Saturday:
RIP David Aaron Clark David Aaron Clark took me to my first genuine serious BDSM club. Whether we were checking out a new K-pop singer, attending a medievalist wedding, or standing in line at a book signing, David Aaron Clark was always kind to me. He was not a self-serving fair weather friend or a hater bad weather friend; David Aaron Clark was a real friend to me. David Aaron Clark is one of the last people still fighting the good fight who really knew me, not my digital persona, not some press, not some rumors, not the guarded self I now present to new people, but the real me. Was one of the last people, not is. Damn it. David Aaron Clark wrote the first big feature review of Blue Blood magazine in print. Later, Blue Blood wrote up David Aaron Clark?s first video project which he directed, wrote, acted in, and literally spilled his own blood for. David Aaron Clark was a brilliant writer. He had a knack for turning even the most mundane video review into something truly entertaining and readable. He was my labelmate at Masquerade/Rhinoceros with his novels The Wet Forever and Sister Radience and the Ritual Sex anthology he and Tristan Taormino co-edited. He and Charles Gatewood collaborated on the blood fetish book True Blood for Last Gasp. DAC was a prolific writer and his talents were seen in many venues from magazines and newspapers to screenplays. A lot of people will probably remember him for his porn video writing and directing, but he created a diverse body of work. Things were really looking up in 2009 for David Aaron Clark. Evil Angel had actually given him the creative freedom to show some of his true artistry with the Pure movie, produced by Aiden Starr and starring Asa Akira. He used to joke that AVN created a Best Asian Feature category just so they would have an award to give him every year. I think he won for Best Screenplay too and they didn?t invent that award only for him. He was a good person and would really give himself to what he made and I always felt he deserved even more recognition than what he got. David Aaron Clark always deserved an award for his creative work across multiple forms of media because of how much he put in. David Aaron Clark and I have known each other for approximately sixteen years and ten months. He welcomed me into his home when we lived far apart and I had to travel to see him. We live so close together in Los Angeles, I wish I?d made the time to see him more. Lived so close, not live so close. With the internet, it is so easy to keep up moderate communication and, being an adult, it seems like it just gets harder and harder to make in-person time. The last thing I said to him was the trivial thought that I wish there was going to be another season of 4400. I wish there was going to be another season of the notorious DAC. I keep wanting to add details like how he played a non-sex role as a pirate in Joone?s Pirates II: Stagnetti?s Revenge, but I could go on all day listing cool interesting bits and pieces about his life. He lived an adventurous and interesting life, dated wild women, had unusual sex, went cool places, and left behind a significant body of work. That is more and better than a lot of people, and I know this is trite, only I wish he were still here; I feel he got taken way way too soon. Rest in peace, David Aaron Clark. You are missed. |

|
i used to read his posts on other forums and video porn industry sites - very opinionated bright guy.

Before David moved out to California some years ago he was around the New York porn scene back in the VHS days like I was. He visited my shoots sometimes in Manhattan, Atlantic City and at a Jersey shore house. David wrote some on-the-set articles for Al Goldstein's Screw newspaper about my early"Strap-On Sally" movies that we shot in or around the NYC Tri-State area. He was a good writer and a talented guy who knew what he liked, Asian women.

I was reminiscing with an adult actress whom worked with both David and I, and she directed me to this sample of his writing:

As I was readying myself for AEE, the AVN Awards show, and InterNext, I came across a touching tribute to David Aaron Clark, created by Charles Wing:
I do hope that DAC's final video, "Pure", wins as the Best Video, and that he win's posthumously the award as Best Director, although it would have been much better, win or lose, that he could still be with us. Dave was a big guy, with a huge talent, and an even bigger heart. RIP DAC... ADG |
