HandballJim 12-02-2009 05:52 PM

When the cable went down for a couple of hours last month we installed NetZero...getting a ton of spam email from their partners. :2 cents:

Jakez 12-02-2009 05:53 PM

ehhhh errrr ehhh errrr ehhhhhhh aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh, yeah that's me trying to spell the dialup sound. I actually spent a few years on AOL listening to that shit 'till early morning hours before I realized it could be turned off.

Less Bandwidth = Less Distractions because everything took so damn long to do.

candyflip 12-02-2009 07:19 PM

I can just use my smartphone as a Wifi router and hit 3G with my laptop if need be.

That is tolerable. Dialup is not.

It is a fucking bitch. I am waiting on this company that is installing a radio tower out here, gonna be getting up to 10MB/s through microwave. Need to start a fundraiser soon for the equipment, $200-$400 dollars is what its gonna run me!

cablevision, I call them and tell them that my internet is not working, they make me try and answere questions with an automated system to fix it myself. Finally 15 minutes later when I stopped anwering questions...customer service tells me that I have a low signal coming into the apt. and that a cable guy left a note on my door a month ago saying that he wanted access to my apt.

Never received any noticed, my service for about 3 days was not working well, like for 4 hours it would not work, then worked late at night. So I schedual the technition to come on a Sunday...big mistake...they said you need to be home between 8am-8pm, nobody comes, finally I call them at 6pm and they said oh we came by, but your super was not home so we could not get access to the main box. WTF , they never even tried to see the super of the building. Plus the box is on the outside of the building? Wasted a whole fucking Sunday at home....when we hit 70 on that day in November. Everyone was playing Handball...fuck pissed now still.

It has been working....to cablevision GFY :321GFY

SomeCreep 12-02-2009 09:14 PM

dial-whaaaat?

Elli 12-02-2009 09:19 PM

I don't miss dial-up at all. I remember being on cable internet in vancouver, then moving to Tucson in 1999. They only had dial-up! UNLREAL. So I was on 28.8 during thunderstorms, 56k on better days for a year until I moved back home. I couldn't believe a major city like that had no cable or adsl.

woj 12-02-2009 09:31 PM

doubt anyone on here still uses dial up

fuzebox 12-02-2009 11:25 PM

flashfire 12-02-2009 11:41 PM

BV 12-02-2009 11:44 PM

fortunes were made on dial-up modems

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 12-03-2009 12:01 AM

been a couple years now, but i used to hit dialup from the family ranch when i was out there. even 2 years ago, you were looking at a half hour to check your hotmail sometimes. i couldn't even imagine trying to have a regular surfing experience on dialup.

The Ghost 12-03-2009 02:32 AM

Sometimes the DSL when I travel is as slow as dialup. Maybe slower :helpme

Arnox 12-03-2009 02:48 AM

AOL since '99 baby.

xenigo 12-03-2009 03:06 AM

Here's a flashback... remember getting busy signals because your ISP didn't have enough modems? LOL Remember before there was "unlimited internet"?

I am forced to use dialup at the moment. No DSL or Broadband in our area. The Satellite Providers say this area is saturated with customers and their system is overloaded so they're not taking on any new subscribers right now. :(

No mobile 3g? You can get alright speeds around 3 mb.

I'm moving to the middle of nowhere soon, but luckily the whole county has radio wifi.
