HostGator.com Good, Bad or Ugly?

One of my clients is interested in using Host Gator and asked me to find a little more about it. Please post your experiences with this company. Thanks!

greg80 12-03-2009 06:46 AM

Best shared hosting ever. Please use this link to sign up :) http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/...gi?id=gregor80

I have some mini sites with them. I monitor them with pingdom.com and uptime is 100%.

bufferover 12-03-2009 06:51 AM

By far they are ok

DidierE 12-03-2009 06:51 AM

best fucking hosting company ever!

Sosa 12-03-2009 07:01 AM

I have a cheap box there without any problems.

fris 12-03-2009 07:06 AM

if you are cheap use them

JayDeeZee 12-03-2009 08:00 AM

They've always served me well. Fast support, plenty of tools and very cheap.

Si 12-03-2009 08:18 AM

I'm thinking of doing the same soon.

Good packages. And I've heard a lot of good things about them.

GetInSpace 12-03-2009 08:24 AM

Host gator is ok....Call me or ICQ me for a more attentive experience. We can do better quality, and better support. All depends what you need. Our network is sick! We have not been down once in over 4 years!

munki 12-03-2009 09:07 AM

I wouldnt touch them with Lawrence Connor's dick...

Cyber Fucker 12-03-2009 09:11 AM

Profits of Doom 12-03-2009 09:22 AM

I use Host Gator in addition to several other virtual packages from various hosting companies that frequent GFY, and I have had nothing but good experiences with Host Gator. I can't same the same for many of the hosting companies on here...

minniesoporno 12-03-2009 09:24 AM

I love using them. Their support is helpful and I have no issues with them. I would recommend anyone to use it if they are looking for ahost.

Agent 488 12-03-2009 09:25 AM

crap and deceptive. use phatservers if you you need a cheap plan.

Neighbor 12-03-2009 09:43 AM

Been with them for 5 years.

No issues or downtime - quick and helpful support

Definitely recommend

HomerSimpson 12-03-2009 10:18 AM

shared - ok
reseller - great
dedicated - never used (theplanet reseller)

Deej 12-03-2009 10:20 AM

Host gator is the 2nd worst hosting company I have ever experienced.

Worst thing I have to say about them is they will change your ftp and database passwords without notice, leaving any blogs or script pages not working until you go in and fix them.

Who fucking does that?

And if you host at host gator and claim no downtime then you are simply not paying attention...

BillyHoe 12-03-2009 10:26 AM

you get what you pay for.

CynBabes 12-03-2009 10:34 AM

I used the reseller hosting with them for 2+ years with no problem, left them to get a vps, then 6 months later they started offering vps =)

naughtylaura 12-03-2009 11:04 AM

I lasted about 2 months with them before switching. They're good if you're looking for something small xx

LiveDose 12-03-2009 11:14 AM

We use them for some feeder and basic sites. No problems for about 2 years now.

brassmonkey 12-03-2009 11:18 AM

static their fine running scripts beware

Gasper 12-03-2009 11:27 AM

they're great!

harvey 12-03-2009 11:45 AM

I guess it depends on the use. I've had 2 accounts with them to host mini sites and never ever had a problem. I also use phatservers for the same kind of stuff and I've found phatservers is a bit slower and their support is much worse. In both cases, for the money you'll pay is OK, but HostGator is better than Phatservers IMHO.

CamsMaster 12-03-2009 01:14 PM

I am good with them..

Bird 12-03-2009 01:24 PM

Good enough for the girls i like to go out with...

D Ghost 12-03-2009 01:27 PM

I use, they are top notch... also they are The Planet I think...

HostGladiator 12-03-2009 01:54 PM

They are pretty good. I worked for hostgator for a while. Really customer oriented and they go out of their way to help customers, even with issues that isn't their problem, such as third party script problems and such. True 24/7/365 in house support, I would recommend them to anyone. As some have said, their data center is The Planet. If you have any detailed questions about them hit me up and I'll be happy to answer them for you.

captain.g 12-03-2009 02:12 PM

I have used them for a few years with both a dedicated and a vir. No complaints really. great price for a vir with cpanel. Never had them change my ftp or any info like that.

blonda80 12-03-2009 03:22 PM

they are ok. had a little problem with them in the past but their live support resolved very fast.
so, i like them :)

dav3 12-03-2009 03:47 PM

Just started using Host Gator and they are pretty good with no issues so far. Inexpensive hosting with tons of features and 1-click-install scripts/tools. Although, their domain registration is kinda pricey, I think it was something like $15 for .coms.

Host Gator (for hosting)

I use 1and1 for domains, since you get $9 .coms with free private whois. Plus, they always runs specials like this month get a .com with free whois privacy for $6.99 for the first year.

1and1 (for domains)

:thumbsup

yep 100% aggree

I see people bashing them on here and I have no idea why, I have used them for over three years and I have had nothing but good and fast customer support. They even went as far as sorting out a hacked site which was my own fault for using a crappy script. They are cheap and for the price a very good hosting company. :2 cents:

Well answer this...

Why should a host ever go and change your passwords without notification? Also, there was no reason for them to change them anyway. After about the third time they did this to me I flipped out and left immediately.

They would change my ftp login info and all of my database infos on all domains i had with tem. All at once.

Give me one reason why any host should do that and also tell me who would/should put up with bullshit like that?

FUCKING HORRIBLE

all these guy saying its great... thats a fucking joke. if i was to post support tickets from all my accounts here with some of the crazy back and forth, idiotic conversations i've had... everyone would accuse me of making it up.

worst support i've ever seen from a hosting company that size.

nothing more annoying than submitting a support ticket and getting 10 questions back (6hrs or more later) as if its your first day online. nothing more idiotic than asking to increase the max number of ftp connections or increase time outs or something simple that you've had to do on all accounts and getting a list of questions back or suggesting you change ftp clients, or having an issue and knowing they're too fucking lazy to look at logs/investigate an correct it or simply just do what you request, when you request it.

phatservers/natnet have almost never taken more than 5 minutes to answer a ticket from me, and i've sent 100s... maybe 1000s.

and the only answer i'm used to is "its done... let me know if i can help you with anything else".... you will NEVER get that with a company like hostgator.com/theplanet/seohosting.

if anyone here thinks they have great service/support.. then its because you NEVER seen great service from a hosting company.

Checkout NakedHosting / CertifiedHosting

They are paying $65 per sale (HG pays $50).

Here are my stats:
386 Unique Visitors
3 sales - $195 paid out (got the checks)
2 sales - pending sale (another $130 on the way soon)

You do the math!

Start promoting CertifiedHosting and make some serious cash!

(I can prove the stats above with screens hots, no problem)

czarina 12-03-2009 07:51 PM

Thanks gang. I gave my client this thread URL so he could read the responses himself.
