Do you ever seen anyone with a gun on there hips? I'm down in the South Bay and never seen any guys or knives on people down here.

Very interesting, could never imagine this in New York City.

What is the point of openly carrying an unloaded gun on your hip?

Whew, I'm not alone...great for all those throwing guns out there but what about the guns that...you know, shoot bullets?

dynastoned 12-03-2009 09:58 PM

if you can't have bullets in your gun it's retarded. if you're going to have to defend yourself you aren't going to have enough time to unstrap your gun, grab your clip, load it, and cock it. i mean i could picture maybe a couple instances where it could be useful.

but then you add in all the liabilities like knowing whether or not you're within damn near a quarter mile of a school and having cops harass you. it just makes it more of a pain in the ass to try and carry than its even worth. of course thats what the laws they drew up were intended to do...

nonetheless it was a good read i didn't know that you could do that.

Yes. However, there are many restrictions, but generally as long as your firearm is not concealed, and not loaded, and you are not in a prohibited area ("school zone", post office, government building), then it is legal. Read the California Open Carry Flyer for complete details, relevant codes, and case law.
This thread is fucking retarded....

OK, for those that don't understand the unloaded part
You can carry a clip on your belt, takes about 2 seconds to load a semi auto pistol with a little practice. When I stood watch in the military on the submarine, I had an unloaded gun, but trust me, I could load that thing if needed very fast

:1orglaugh I'm getting an awesome mental image from that. Thanks :thumbsup

I'm a pretty decent shot, but I doubt I could load a gun in 2 seconds.

How long do you think it would take you to slide a magazine in?

Vendzilla 12-04-2009 10:26 AM

My S&W 40 won't fire with out a clip in it, if I were to carry it that way, one in the chamber and a couple clips on the belt, just slip in the clip and then it can fire!
