Indiana Teen Kills Little Brother and Blames TV Show Dexter

Quote:

An Indiana 17-year-old who told authorities he identified with a television serial killer said strangling his 10-year-old brother satisfied a craving like a hungry person eating a hamburger, according to court documents.

Andrew Conley of Rising Sun showed no remorse or emotion as he described choking to death Conner Conley as the two wrestled Sunday, a probable cause affidavit said. He told investigators the child's last words were "Andrew, stop."

Conley said he dragged his brother's body to his car before driving to see his girlfriend, who told investigators the teen "seemed happy, more happy than she had seen him in a while," according to the affidavit. Conley said he dumped the body near a park in the Ohio River community about 90 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

"Sometimes people are just evil," Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard said. "This is an evil child."

Prosecutors filed preliminary charges of murder against Conley along with a supporting affidavit Thursday. He is being charged as an adult and will appear Friday in court, Negangard said.

Conley's family did not return messages for comment Thursday. Negangard said Conley had an attorney but none was listed in the affidavit.

The teen told investigators he had had fantasies about killing someone since he was in eighth grade, including cutting somebody's throat, and felt "just like" the serial killer Dexter on the Showtime television series of the same name.

"Like I had to ... like when people have something like they are hungry and there is a hamburger sitting there and they knew they had to have it and I was sitting there and it just happened," Conley said in the affidavit.

The slaying comes weeks after Missouri investigators say a 15-year-old girl, Alyssa Bustamante, told them she strangled, stabbed and cut a 9-year-old neighbor's throat because she wanted to know what it was like to kill someone. A not guilty plea has been entered on Bustamante's behalf for charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Really sad case, but this just gets to me:
""Sometimes people are just evil," Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard said. "This is an evil child.""

I want proof that sometimes people are just evil, and I want evil legally defined, then I want all current inmates tested for evil.

Just try the f**cking case mister prosecutor. Your case is so weak you need this shit stirring, jury tainting hyperbole? Incompetent ass. Save it for your memoirs.

edit: In case anyone gives a shit, it just chaps my ass when these people feel it's ok to just spout off whatever garbage is in their headgunk. This is a public employee charged with winning his cases, not an aspiring writer with an audience. He has a confession and the killer in custody and he was supposed to be making a statement to the public about it. I guess it was ok with his superiors to just ad lib on the nature of humans.

Stories like this really make me wonder about the human race. :Oh crap

i remember when they tried to fuck over judas priest for the same kind of thing.

instead of looking where the responsibility should lie, i am positive someone will go after hbo. there is money there after all.

art imitates life, not the other way around. any other suggestion to the contrary is futile.

:)

That poor family. They just lost 2 sons.

I read this story earlier this afternoon and I've been literally sick to my stomach ever since. So senseless and horrifying! I can't even begin to imagine how the mother must feel right now.

it is apparent that there was something wrong with the kid well before Dexter ever aired.. not HBO's fault - just one fucked up kid

This is the real tragedy. Thanks for pointing it out.

Jade509 12-04-2009 01:26 PM

bobby666 12-04-2009 01:33 PM

that:s not nice

BlackCrayon 12-04-2009 01:37 PM

he fogot about one main thing, dexter only killed bad people. he should have killed himself. then he would of really been playing dexters part. what a douche.

Deej 12-04-2009 02:25 PM

When i was in high school there was a guy in my grade that did this very thing. In school he would talk about killing people. Was amazing how all of us kids seen the evil in him but never once did a counselor do or say anything to him or his family.

how his parents didnt see it is beyond me as well. He was left to babysit his neighbors kid that was 9 years old. family friends. well the two families left them two alone. The guy (16 or 17) ended up stabbing the little boy in the face something like 13 times.

He then calmly walked about 2 miles ditching the knife and then calling the cops on himself. Although he was seemuingly remorseful after, he plead that he just had to know what it was like to kill someone.

I'm sick of people blaming their issues on television shows, movies and video games. Millions of people watch these shows, movies and play vide games and DON'T commit acts like this.

These are like FTC wet dreams.

Darkland 12-04-2009 02:36 PM

Hmmmm.... Sensationalize much? Or poor reading comprehension?

1. Not one mention in the article of blaming the show Dexter. He merely said he identified with the main character.
2. The kid said he has had these urges since he was in 8th grade.

One thing is for sure, the kid is messed up in the head and needs put away.

After Shock Media 12-04-2009 02:55 PM

Does not seem like he blamed it on watching Dexter, seems that he just related to Dexter. Very big difference. Sort of difference between the show told me to do it, and I always was curious and Dexter and I seemed like kindred spirits.

Slightly funny how many people associate Dexter with HBO instead of showtime in the thread.

As for if the kid is evil or not, who cares. Evil is just another term for broken in a certain way. If people are that interested in motivation and what was missing in the kid - stop the way we prosecute such killers and instead make them into lab rats.

PR_Glen 12-04-2009 03:04 PM

why not join the army if you have a lust for killing people? at least it would (hopefully) be for a better cause in the end...

maybe he had a lust for anal rape as well then?

Dexter kills other serial killers. This kid didn't kill a serial kiler he killed an innocent person. So no I'm not seeing how this is anything like Dexter.
