See threads title :)
I want to buy a nice projector (btw we call them beamers over here) that can do Full HD. Also needs a good screen to go with it. Where are you guys buying such toys, and what do i have to know before buying? What should i look for? I dont want the thing to make a lot of noise, but besides that? |

Panasonic PT-AX200U LCD Projector I use this projector in a multi-purpose fashion, meaning it is used for everything from the Sunday afternoon Football game, to Wii/Playstation, and Blu Ray movies. Even in the middle of the day in a room with three 3x6 windows with only 2" slat blinds covering them, I can get enjoyment from anything projected. Wait till the evening and pop a movie in and the picture is awesome. The blacks are very good, and the brightness can't be beat. This is paired with a 106" Elite screen and can't be happier. I don't know how much would be gained by spending the extra cash on a Stewart screen or going to 1080p projector. For under a grand you absolutely positively can't go wrong.
and i got it one abt.com,sell at $999:thumbsup,great item. |
I bought an Optoma 720p HD65 about 6 months ago for $600, love it! I watch it at about 120 inches, but it can go to 250 I believe. That + HDMI Input Switcher + PS3 + Surround Sound is all you need. I had chosen it as my first projector based on a ton of solid reviews.
You can go 1080p for under a grand off Amazon (Optoma) As for the screen, the projector looks great on the wall but I went with some pretty standard $150 ish white screen. If you have too much light, you'll want one of the dark screens that filter light out though. |
It really depends on how much money you want to spend. If you have around 10k to burn I'd most likely go with this one...

Epson 9500UB *replacement for the 7500UB* and Screen Innovations Black Diamond 100" if it will fit. I've designed home theaters for Street of dreams homes upwards of $80-150k and seen this combo fit right at home. You are looking at about 7K for the combo and in a room with marginal ambient light you will be majorly impressed I promise.
