Anyone here left GoDaddy to go to a new registrar? How did it go?

Ive had my domains with Godaddy forever and thinking of moving my big ones to a new one for reasons.

ANyone done this and how did it go? Was there any downtime or bumps in the process?

baddog 12-11-2009 10:13 PM

Would probably have more to do with where you went in this case.

clickhappy 12-11-2009 10:14 PM

I'm thinking of going to moniker.com

baddog 12-11-2009 10:14 PM

»Rob Content« 12-11-2009 10:15 PM

I'd have sex with who ever posted above me before using godaddy

clickhappy 12-11-2009 10:19 PM

you had a bad experience with moniker.com?
im open, i just heard good things about them.
and I dont care about cost, this site is my bread and butter so ill pay a good fee as long as its safe

CPimp 12-11-2009 10:24 PM

You guys can use Name Cheap. $9.25/yr for a new domain or transfer, and you get free WHOIS Guard with each domain purchase. If you're moving a bunch of domains, talk with their sales or get a hold of me and I Will see about getting you a discount.

I have never had problems with namecheap and I love NC because their backend is not a fucking piece of garbage like godaddy's.

If you want, click here to go to namecheap under my ID. Or go to this link without my ID.

I appreciate it, guys! I am sure you will be happy with namecheap!

Im with Godaddy but I also have a unused account at Moniker....what worries me is thier lack of 24 hr support if a problem occurs...like last weeks incident involving over 5 hours of downtime and no support to be found

http://www.gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/941703-moniker-network-unreachable.html

Just tread carefull.

The_Adventure 12-11-2009 10:26 PM

I used to have my domains at godaddy and namecheap but a few years ago I moved everything to Moniker. No hassle.

I only use godaddy for tdnam these days.

cashcows 12-11-2009 10:27 PM

I have several thousand domains at Moniker.com they are the best. I have less than 2 hundred at Godaddy. I like there dial up support better. But every thing else at moniker is better faster and easier to do.

Would you care to share publically or privately what you've been hearing. Ive never been disappointed with GoDaddy. In fact they have gone above and beyond on more than one occassion solving problems that were our fault. Find me on my ICQ or email. - Alex

Then leave them alone. :2 cents:

digitaldivas 12-12-2009 12:28 AM

i have never had any problems from godaddy doing anything with them, through them or moving things from them

Playboy-Deak 12-12-2009 01:13 AM

GoDaddy is too expensive now! I'm gonna move all my domains to namecheap in the next couple weeks...

kane 12-12-2009 01:19 AM

I left Godaddy several years ago after they pissed me off. I wanted to transfer some domains to them, paid for the transfer then the transfer didn't go through. Basically they said since the domains were within 30 days of renewal they couldn't transfer them. No problem. But the didn't refund my money. They just gave me a credit. So they didn't do what I wanted, couldn't do what I wanted, and kept my money. Fantastic.

So I decided to transfer the domains away from godaddy and a couple of them they forced me to renew with them before I could transfer them. So I had to pay twice basically.

It wasn't a lot of money, maybe $60-$75 but the idea of how they worked pissed me off.

Max_PuZcash 12-12-2009 02:47 AM

baddog, what's wrong about moniker? I am really interested, pls tell me, even if you just write me a one line email, I'd really appreciate knowing what you think about them :-)

ohteddy 12-12-2009 02:56 AM

I've been happy to GoDaddy, APlus, and Net Solutions. Only recently moved to GoDaddy because of their prices: search in google for "Godaddy coupon" and you'll be able to purchase domains for 6.99 (sponsored link)

Incidentally here's a list of the top registrars: registrarstats.com

fatfoo 12-12-2009 02:57 AM

I love namecheap. GoDaddy is good, too. Thanks for starting this thread, clickhappy.

I tried this one named - registerfly - but, I don't like it because it takes too long to update nameservers.

Read the threads. Without Bari, Moniker would be like epassporte without MichaelO.

I expect more out of support than a rep that may or may not be available.

Too much! How much do you plan on paying at NameCheap? For those of us @ Godaddy, most are probably paying $7.50 or less.

I've had no problems with Moniker and moved almost all of mine from godaddy and dotster to moniker.com Just a few left that I am moving as they get close to expiring. :2 cents:

Serious question ? Doesnt it worry you the lack of support ? .....I would be more than happy to move some to Moniker if I didnt have to worry about this aspect.

24-7 Support when it comes to domains and hosting avoids having to get into a thread like I posted (link) earlier in a panic ?

GTS Mark 12-12-2009 04:57 PM

I lost over 80 decent tube domains @ godaddy... I had them on auto renew and the credit card they had on file had just expired. So i lost all 80 domains without even an e-mail or a phone call. ugh!

I moved all my domains over to moniker as soon as that happened... Never looked back.

My rep Scott at godaddy calls my house, reminds me and will renew my domains once I give him the okay and last 4 digits of the cc I want to use. Plus I get several email reminders regarding each domain...weeks, and days before they are about to expire. Many of the stories are regarding peoples own carelessness. I almost blamed godaddy also for something that was clearly my own fault...and still godaddy came through and got my domain back and waived the $60 redemption fee. I must have spent over 30K with them just in the last 3 years...and just recently condensing my portfolio from 2,000 to 800 and will try to bring it down to under 500. Besides from blogs it is hard enough to run one great website let alone thousands. I also have a moniker account with about 10 domains...really for transfers from other moniker accounts and they have a decent price for .jp domains.

Farang 12-12-2009 07:57 PM

moved the domains to moniker years ago

Can't recall really having to call my domain company at 5am. Anytime I need something I hit up Bari, there is a 800 number to call if need be.

I guess last week these guys didnt expect to have to call at 5 am when Monikers system went down..only to discover support finished at 12pm EST ......and then had to sit it out.

I prefer to plan ahead instead of waiting for a disaster moment then go "oh shit !")

I think Moniker would be a good choice if only they would install 24-7 live support ...( I cant figure why they dont other than to save $$$$ as they are not a mom and pop outfit )

I have a day job...so yes I have called godaddy many times in the middle of the night.

teh ghey 12-12-2009 10:14 PM

Why do you guys need 24/7 support? What are you doing with your domains?
I've had domain names since 1998 and dont think I've called for support more than twice.
You buy your domains, add the features you want, and then they site there, You renew when you want to keep them. what else do you need to do with them?

been with them since 2001 and perhaps I am not as tech savay as most on here...so for me to spend time figuring out, changing, configuring, etc. It is much easy to call and get something done in 60 seconds...fuck I spent 30k with them, let them give you 24 hour customer service support.

I have my personal rep at GD and when she is out sick or whatever they have 4 or 5 other executive reps that can help out. This includes Saturday and Sunday.

I have no idea what their regular support is like though, but I love their executive rep program.

What do you do with the domains you drop? Feel free to shoot me an ICQ next time you are dropping domains. I might pick them up from you.

ditto! not quite 80, but same thing. Then the time they call me is to renew their hosting! :disgust

GetInSpace 12-12-2009 10:49 PM

Im in so deep with godaddy would be a movie to move at this point.

I have an account rep, and I get discounts. When I buy new domains I use REV3 as my savings code and I get domains for like 7 and change.

I don't love godaddy, but have never really had any major problems. So fuck it.

Got so many other things to do! :)

Amazing since they send alerts 60, 45, 30, 15, 10, and 5 days prior to the due date. It is their responsibility to ensure your credit card is current?

baddog 12-12-2009 11:31 PM

Sorry, they advise you 3 days ahead of time as well. And EVERY alert includes this line: IMPORTANT: If the credit card we have on file for you has expired or been closed, we will not be able to automatically renew your domain(s). To review and update your credit card information, log in to your account at GoDaddy.com(R), go to the Customer Info & More tab and select Credit Card and Payment Info.

People refusing to accept responsibility for their own actions are no reason to suggest that the service was poor.

Well considering I have been a client of there's oh well lets' see since 1999... I think i might know how the system works Baddog thanks.

srhcom 12-13-2009 07:02 AM

I am in the process of getting transferred to name.com. Renewing with Godaddy was going to be $9 per domain for whois protection, and name's is free.

They were aware of it, and the problem was fixed. Do you think when they have a full company outage they don't know? So would a ton of people calling support fix the issue? It wasn't one persons domains it was everything down. It was fixed after a short time.

wizzart 12-13-2009 01:31 PM

GoDaddy is biggest , most powerfull and cheapest.

Some things sucks but GoDaddy still rocks

donteattuna 12-13-2009 04:27 PM

I just had a negative experience with Godaddy again this week. Will lose more domains now. Seems like the price went up with them, and quality continues on the way down. Tech support telling me some incorrect BS also. Will switch from them on next renewals.

First negative with them was when they sold new domain names before they actually had them. You paid, then find out you don't own them, they would be auctioned to the highest bidder. Keep in mind this is after you "pre registered" them AND PAID. Oh, no there was no mention of auction or anything during the order and payment process. Only after you ask WTF are you informed of the smoke and mirrors. :2 cents:

brassmonkey 12-13-2009 04:33 PM

i wouldnt use godaddy even if they gave me free shit
