almost happened to me...

passed out in -30 in the backseat of my car in the parking lot of a bar.

mind you i had winter coats and blankets but luckily a friend came from university and found me in the car. I was drunk but shaking from the cold....no frostbite or anything though

I didn't drink and drive - just used the car backseat as a place to pass out.

getting the frozen puke out the next day was a nightmare......

Froze to death... That's terrible...

I know in Toronto bums in the streets sometimes freeze to death during the winter. One or more bums every year, I think?

Bon Scott choked on his barf in a freezing car.

On 19 February 1980, Bon Scott, 33 at the time, passed out after a night of heavy drinking in a London club called the Music Machine (hosted at the Camden Palace, currently known as the KOKO). He was left to sleep in a car owned by an acquaintance named Alistair Kinnear, at 67 Overhill Road in East Dulwich, South London.[13] The following afternoon, Kinnear found Scott lifeless, and alerted the authorities. Scott was rushed to King's College Hospital in Camberwell, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Pulmonary aspiration of vomit was the cause of Scott's death,[14] and the official cause was listed as "acute alcohol poisoning" and "death by misadventure".[15][16] Scott was cremated and his ashes were interred by his family in Fremantle, Western Australia, the city to which they had moved when he was six.[17]

Inconsistencies in media accounts of Scott's death (incorrect spelling of Alistair Kinnear's first name, amongst others) have been cited in conspiracy theories, which suggest that Scott died of a heroin overdose, or was killed by exhaust fumes redirected into the car, or that Kinnear did not exist.[15] Additionally, Scott was asthmatic, and the temperature was below freezing on the morning of his death.[18] Ozzy Osbourne states in the documentary Don't Blame Me that Scott actually died of hypothermia. The coroner had no such doubts based on the medical facts.

I remember an old g/f told me about the college she went to. The town was close to a Navajo Indian reservation.

Many times an Indian would get drunk, pass out and freeze to death on the streets. They called them Navajo pops.

A real good friend of mine passed out beside the car (with keys in his pocket) outside the cottage one night when we were 20-21. He was beside the warm car, and only about 40 yrds from the cottage. (the rest of us had just got their from bar, made a drink, and all passed out ourselves from the warmth)

It was -34 C that night and they figure he lasted about 3-4 minutes before losing vitals. He was found in the morning by a couple walking their dog. Lying their dead, with his head nustled up on his hands like a pillow. Like he had been all comfy and settled for a long snooze.

Saddest funeral ever.

Condolences to the family BVF, no real way to explain any of it.

Happens often enough. Guy died in town here a years back trying to stumble home drunk across a farmer's field from town. Passed out int he snow, froze solid and wasn't found for a few days.

My little brother has a close call in high school. Got drunk at a hockey game and passed out outside the arena in a snowbank. Some people found him heading back to their car or something and ran him to the hospital.

Common Sense should dictate that ifyou're getting hammered out somewhere in the winter, have a ride arranged or a place to crash ahead of time :2 cents:
