What makes a tequila a good one?

What makes a tequila a good one?

All I know about Tequila is to look for ones that are "100% agave.
What is the difference between the clear and dark ones.

We used to drink Patron silver however have switched to 1800 silver recently.

for me it's drink-ability and flavor. If you can't sip it at room temp, it is most likely trash.

The difference between clear and dark is the aging (resting period)

silver is right out of the tap after it's been distilled. Reposado and Anejo have to be rested (usually in oak barrels)
reposado- atleast 3 months
anejo- at least 1 year.

and that's by law. Mexico is super strict about it's tequila production and manufacturing.

my personal favorite is dos lunas reposado. you can taste vanilla and leather in it and it's been aged 9 months in old jack daniels barrels.

Number of mexican workers dead per bottle...

When I was a waiter, the women would order silvers because they're smoother.

older men would order the gold tequilas (anejo).

And saying "100% agave" is just a marketing gimmick. Just as champagne can't be made outside of the champagne region in France, tequila has to come from that one area in Mexico AND be 100% agave.
