can a bad monitor freeze up your computer?
i have a dying monitor - it's a Viewsonic model that is know to die after 2 years - i'm replacing the monitor today but as this monitor has been dying my computer has also been freezing up. can a monitor do this or i have other problems with this computer?
|
I couldn't see how? If anything, check your video card
|
Windows says the video card is working properly - what else can I do?
the monitor is definitely dying, takes longer and longer when I turn it on to display and i am seeing odd looking little pixels in different areas on my screen. |
unlikely, but possible... just buy a new monitor and see what happens...
|
No it can't...

A bad video card can definitely freeze up your computer. Windows may say the card is working but if it gets hot, it gets hinky and Windows still thinks its fine.
Try another one and see. Bad monitors don't affect anything. |
bad video card yes, if another monitor works it means your card is just fine
if it takes longer for the monitor to show images and its the monitors issue it may make you think something is wrong with your PC |
Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily the monitor freezing up the computer. I bet it's something to do with hardware or drivers having trouble operating the monitor and freezing up.
I'd bet it has something to do with the video card. |
a bad video card can do that to you..but you might also check to see if there is a driver update for the card first

my money is on the graphics card....
