My house caught on fire last night....

Well thank goodness I have a good nose, I smelled something and went into the kitchen and boom it was filled with smoke. The attic caught fire as you can read here

http://www.news-record.com/content/2...tes_house_fire

Thank God we got out with all the animals! My poor cat was stuck upstairs and I just knew she wasn't going to make it but affter a hour of looking for her we found her in my dresser. It was a good thing I had left one of the drawers open.

XD2 12-19-2009 05:23 PM

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 12-19-2009 05:27 PM

That's terrible news, especially at Christmas time... :(

At least you and your critters got out okay.

Every home she be equipped with smoke detectors.

Good luck recovering from this.

We had two smoke alarms, but they didn't go off. The fire was up in the attic.

glad you're ok

Deej 12-19-2009 05:49 PM

My neighbor had the exact opposite happen. A pipe bursted (not due to freezing, just freak accident) up stairs flooding their whole house. It kept running for 5 or 6 days. basically ruining the whole interior from second floor down. ALl electronics got rained on... All sheet rock and what not in the walls is ruined and fallen apart. All kitchen appliances toast.

Looks like 100k restoration. Ironically y neighbor owns a home restoration company. So it will be a cake walk for him to fix the remaining...

He came home to this on his birthday(Its his weekend home) to find his house completely fucked up and a new indoor raining feature...

digifan 12-19-2009 05:50 PM

So sorry to hear that... hang on girl.

Va2k 12-19-2009 06:15 PM

Damn hon, sorry to hear this. Good luck.

xxweekxx 12-19-2009 06:18 PM

ps sorry about the incident.. one of my biggest fears is losing all my shit/house to a fire

bustherh 12-19-2009 06:23 PM

That is really shitty
I had my house that I lived in for 20 years burn right to the ground. It was a really old house and it was completely engulfed in flames in about one minute after a kerosene can exploded.

Spunky 12-19-2009 06:30 PM

Sorry to hear about that, glad everybody got out safe

candyflip 12-19-2009 06:36 PM

Wow that sucks. I hope you've been able to make arrangements to move somewhere for the holidays.

Will your insurance cover the damages?

anicetan 12-19-2009 06:45 PM

Glad to hear that everyone is OK. ON another note, I just bought my ex-wife a house, and she's had TWO fires in six weeks.

TurboAngel 12-19-2009 08:05 PM

Thanks everyone

We have heat sensor alarms in our attic as well as our attached garage. And then of course smoke detectors everywhere throughout that are hard wired in and also have battery backups. The heat sensors are so damn loud when the tests are run.

ganjaman 12-19-2009 09:02 PM

i hope you had all your photos with you ... sad day before xmas

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 12-19-2009 09:04 PM

Nothing sucks quite like a house fire. When I was in the second grade I came home from school one day to see our farmhouse up in flames. Whole place burnt right to the ground as we stood and watched. The family farm is about 20 minutes out of the nearest town, so by the time the trucks made it out, they were pretty much just in control mode to make sure the fire didn't spread to the barn, or into the nearby trees. We lost pretty much everything. Sure insurance covers some of that, but you're basically left standing with your dick in your hand in that situation.

Trust me i know where you're coming from and Im sorry to hear this. Hope everything goes well for you. I'm sure being the holiday season people will come together to help in any way they can.

halfpint 12-19-2009 09:05 PM

Glad you all got out safe and a pretty shitty thing to happen right on top of Christmas

Wish you all the best

Our friends also just had this happen. They had been away for two weeks holiday and the pipe burst a day or two after they left. Builders took a month to fix the damage.

AaronM 12-19-2009 11:33 PM

Whoa. Sorry to read about the fire. Good job catching it before things really got out of hand.

fatfoo 12-20-2009 12:01 AM

It's interesting how fires get reported by the media in print form. However, I did not see any printed articles in the media about me. Just some short TV mentions about me and some radio talks about me.

I don't start fires. But some people say I've started a psychological fire of perpetual progress.

NetHorse 12-20-2009 12:29 AM

That sucks, best of luck getting re-situated.

I think if it had been five more minutes, I think we would have lost the whole house.

I thought it was built in 1902, we lived in the historical district so I'm lucky the house didn't burn to the ground. I think I have a house to move into today but not 100% sure, just have 3 more to look at.

I never thought about the name of my street like that! Thanks for the laugh.

ShellyCrash 12-23-2009 08:44 AM

Is insurance going to cover all the damages? Are you going to rent in the meantime?

I have a new home I'm moving in today. The home owner had insurance so the house is covered. To be honest the only thing we lost was a TV and some dirty laundry ( I was doing the wash so I had had 2 piles on the floor). The fire wasn't that bad after we went back, kinda ironic.

MrMaxwell 12-24-2009 04:53 AM

I'm pleased that you're moving.. it sounds like living in this house has been nothing but trouble.

SleazyDream 12-28-2009 03:15 PM

sooo sorry... the worst thing other than sickness or death is the loss of one's home

I'm sorry you had that happen all so , it be honest the red cross and my dog trainer were the only ones to help. I thought people would be will to help more as it was x-mas but they didn't. Thank god we didn't need as much help as other people have.
