Anyone ever had gout?

Woke up yesterday in excruciating agony. My foot felt like it had been injected with flaming gasoline. Spent five hours in the emergency room, and the diagnosis comes back: gout.

Gout? I thought that was something fat old Englishmen got in the 18th century. Apparently it's a buildup of uric acid crystals in the muscle. Anyway, they gave me a shot and some pills and some crutches, and sent me home. Still hurts, but the pills seem to be doing the trick. Anyone ever get this before? I tell you, it totally sucks. :Oh crap

I was misdiagnosed with gout several years back. I ended up having three herniated disks in my back and that jack ass doctor said I had gout. lol

My grandpa has it actually and yes you can control it with pills, im sorry to hear about your troubles though man. Its never easy to hear you "have" anything. :(

Know a couple people with gout, and I can safely say, I hope I never have to deal with that shit in my lifetime!

anicetan 12-19-2009 07:17 PM

Thanks Jag. At least it's treatable!

To minimize your symptoms do this:

No meat diet
Minimize beans and nuts in your diet
Focus on fruit and certain vegetables
Drink a lot of water

I had gout 4 years ago, cleaned up now

Thanks for the advice. In October I got divorced AND had swine flu (no joke), and between the two I either had no appetite or simply couldn't eat. I lost 20 pounds in about six weeks.

Still haven't gotten my appetite back, so I've basically been living on Kind bars (nuts and sticks) and energy drinks. Maybe there's something in the energy drinks...

I have it and sometimes it's horrible. Worse yet the joints I fucked up thru sports and motorcycle accidents have become magnets for it.

Take care of it up front don't let it linger like I did.

I had gout a few months ago. By far the worst pain I have ever felt. Totally changed my diet. I hardly eat any red meat now (Number 1 contributer to uric acid).

Meat, alcohol, shellfish and yeast are the worst things to eat.

Jesus Christ, not your year, huh? Well, the good news is 2010 can only get better.

Rapid weight loss can cause a gout attack. :2 cents:

You can cure it with vitamins.

Here's what you need to take:

Vitamin C --small dose every few hours during an attack
Vitamin B5
Folic acid
Proteolytic enzymes

If it works for you, I'd appreciate a link or two. Hit me up at: DaddyHalbucks //AT//GMAlL

I eat a lot of meat, nuts/beans, and drink a lot of alcohol and have never gotten it.

L-Pink 12-19-2009 08:10 PM

repeat ...

The Sultan Of Smut 12-19-2009 08:12 PM

I used to get it once every 8 months but ever since I limited my diet (most of the time) to low purine foods and drank a few ounces of black cherry juice twice a day it hasn't come back. Oh and I drink a couple litres of water every day which is quite important.

i feel your pain...

spankmo 12-20-2009 01:37 AM

Depends on your metabolism and other factors too.

JFK 12-20-2009 03:52 AM

I get it as well from time to time, as a result of drinking too much beer, or red wine over a period of a few months. It effects my big toe, its a bitch trying to walk, like you have broken it. The only thing I founds as working to clear it up in a few days and take away the pain is Indomethacid. To you guys who get it, I feel your pain:winkwink:

18teens 12-20-2009 08:13 AM

I had it in my knee when I was in my 30s. It was very painful but never came back again after I finished taking the meds.

Big Chad 12-20-2009 08:28 AM

I get it in my kankles every 6 months or so, and it's the worse pain ever. I took cherry extract pills, and anti-inflamitory pills and it clears up within a few days, but untill then... aint walking it hurts so bad.

PastorSinAlot 12-20-2009 08:32 AM

I get a gout attack once a year. You have to have a good diet. To much drinking, to much meat. Hot dogs trigger mines, I fuck up sometimes going to the movies. My pops gets his in his knees.

It does not feel good at all, I would not wish gout on any one.

Jim_Gunn 12-20-2009 11:08 AM

You guys really must have diets made up of total shit to suffer from an antiquated disease like gout in this day and age. Stop drinking so much alcohol for one, drink more water, exercise and eat a healthy diet and your gout will go away. I mean how can one be surprised that you would suffer from a horrible disease if your diet consists of some kind of processed bars and energy drinks like one guy above mentions. Just look at the avatars of some of the other people in the thread. One guy is actually holding up a bottle of Mountain Dew as it it was manna from heaven rather than the poison that it is, and another guy is holding up a bottle of champagne or some other alcohol. You guys gotta get some healthy stuff going on in your lives!
