720p HDV is going to KILL my Server Space :(

700 mb for a 5 clip pantyhose video update. BLAH! Which means 1.5 Gb per model, x 40 models that I am planning on shooting this year = 60 gb. My members are worth it though, as is the Foot Fetish and Pantyhose Fetish Discipline. Fuck I love womens feet :thumbsup

Yes but it is pain in the ass when you need to backup data.

I've always thought that's pretty small peas but the webhosts love to gouge for drive space... Charging an absolute ass-ton for piddly-squat when I could easily mail them a 2gb HDD for $150. Makes me wonder how they try to justify their premiums.

xenigo 12-21-2009 02:03 AM

Oops! I mean, 2tb.

There's probably no justification, apart from low margins on the base product.

It's no different to the rest of the hardware though - you're paying a fixed monthly fee perpetually even though the server hardware will be paid off within a year.

Add Raid?

Sooo once your members pay enough subscriptions that pay for that video/picture set should the content be free or discounted then?

Also your 2tb hdd is not a enterprise drive which can and will fail after being thrashed around with activity 24/7 non-stop.

So you're saying I shouldn't have the right to colo? What I'm saying is the leased model doesn't work for me because the benefit does not outweigh the cost. What does work, however, is buying a machine outright and paying for managed hosting.

If it's my hardware, and I paid for it, what's it matter? Even if I paid $309 for a 300gb SAS drive, it would be a hell of a lot better of a deal than paying the extra hundreds per month hosts want for this sort of storage.

Backup + bandwidth should be fun with that. Cant you compress it at least a little without too much distortion?

If you colo your equipment you can do as you please, its not our liability for your expenses your just simply renting space/power and bandwidth from us. But as a whole as a dedicated server goes my statement applies to the above.

Chris 12-22-2009 10:39 AM

so your post went from how much space 720p takes up
and ended up with you saying FUCK I LOVE FEET

weLp this post wasnt creepy at all ;/

Loch 12-22-2009 10:40 AM

That is not a lot in the world of HD, or even SD to be honest.
Space is cheap and you can always just mirror your data to either another server or NAS/SAN

Ususlly with HD you are talking Tera Bytes in Storage for even medium sized sites :)
