Anyone have experience with AVG-Anti Virus?

It's free right? Pros? Cons?

Thanks.

TheDoc 12-22-2009 08:21 AM

Free, I like it... it takes up a chunk of resources, but overall no complaints or problems that I can recall.

v4 media 12-22-2009 08:25 AM

yep it does a good job, catches alot of crap

Chosen 12-22-2009 08:41 AM

It's free but it's not as good as Avast which is free as well :)

Evil Chris 12-22-2009 08:59 AM

OK... so if Avast and AVG are so good, why would anyone pay for Norton?

Andy CHOOPA 12-22-2009 09:11 AM

I use it, seems pretty good

Chosen 12-22-2009 09:46 AM

Evil Chris, Norton sucks big time...

Norton is a waste of money in my opinion. I've had two versions over the years and both were shit

Theo 12-22-2009 10:02 AM

Norton is target for many viruses that will destroy it upon their attack.

Way3 12-22-2009 10:03 AM

+1 for AVG! Never had any issues with it!

Evil Chris 12-22-2009 10:07 AM

Interesting. I'm not sure how Norton can be called a bad product though. I have used it for years with no issues. However, if AVG is equally good (and free!), then I really should give it a chance.

Chosen 12-22-2009 10:37 AM

Evil Chris, you're probably the lucky one.
I know people who had many issues with Norton...

Juicy D. Links 12-22-2009 11:17 AM

Kaspersky all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Va2k 12-22-2009 11:20 AM

I use to love avg had all my family on it, then I tried avast and fell out of love with avg very fast! It isn't a resource hog like avg and it catches way more things.

Evil Chris 12-22-2009 11:22 AM

Thanks for the good info and feedback. I'm going to give AVG a try soon.

CaroMark 12-22-2009 11:23 AM

AVG has been very good for me but I have also heard good things recently about AVAST. In the hosting world I know at least two dozen System Admins around the country that originally directed me to AVG.

AVG don't even waste you time Kaspersky blocks all the attacks avg is a joke.

JJSLIMM 12-22-2009 11:26 AM

AVG has gone way downhill over the last couple years.. Your asking for trouble with that free version or even the paid version, Get Trend Micro Pro....its worth the money

stevo 12-22-2009 01:48 PM

AVG was okay... I'm trying out Comodo right now. I like their firewall protection program, so I decided to give their antivirus a try. So far so good...

Deej 12-22-2009 03:54 PM

Kapersky and avast are far better than AVG...

Lets not even mention the most fucked up yet default "anti virus" software out there... Norton. Norton is the biggest fucking pile of shit joke out there.

Go with the paid Avast version. :2 cents:

Jey p 12-22-2009 05:32 PM

I used to be an AVG user unitl I got a virus :(
AVG couldnt find it so I installed Avast. It founded and deleted it completely. Now I am a happy Avast user !

dmg44 12-22-2009 05:47 PM

I used AVG and it was good but when i noticed that when you use Avast you oly have to sign up on the website and they give you full protection.

GrouchyAdmin 12-22-2009 06:06 PM

It's OK. It's no NOD32, but it's OK.

HomerSimpson 12-22-2009 06:10 PM

Free: Avast, Avira, AVG
Paid - Fast: Nod32
Paid - Secure: Kaspersky
Paid - Waste of money: Norton, McAfee

ronin 12-22-2009 06:15 PM

it's ok imo

dav3 12-22-2009 06:33 PM

AVG blows.

Avira and Avast are good free ones that do not blow.

kektex 12-22-2009 08:35 PM

I used to recommend Kaspersky and NOD32 (both paid) a lot, but lately I've read a lot of good press for Microsoft Security Essentials and apparently it does a pretty good job and it's free.

One review from ARS Technica

I still have time left on my Kaspersky licence, but I installed MS SE on some other computers and I think I might stick with it.

Big Chad 12-22-2009 08:40 PM

AVG Is a system resource hog, it slowed my computer down so bad at work I uninstalled it.

baddog 12-22-2009 09:22 PM

I use it, but don't turn on all the features as it is too resource intensive.

tiger 12-23-2009 01:18 AM

Used to be good, now it sucks use avast instead it's free too.

Startzone 12-23-2009 03:40 AM

Avast is much better.........picks up any virus around :)

Avira blows a bit as well :)

NBBCash Matze 12-23-2009 03:56 AM

never had a problem with AVG but I prefer Avast. Both are good I think.

Have to agree with Juicy I have tried all of them, AVG is ok for someone who only uses their PC as a hobby. Nod32 is for the average PC user. Norton and McAfee absolute rubbish waste of good money and time. Kaspersky Internet Security is great for someone who does a lot of work on the net. :2 cents:

tranza 12-23-2009 09:02 AM

AVG is ok, but I prefer avast!
