We need to ban High fructose corn syrup
We need to ban High fructose corn syrup in this country and stop subsidizing the production of corn. Also cows need to start eating grass again and not corn which makes them sick and in turn us sick....

someone watched Food Inc recently I guess?
|
even if they ban these things they'll find something else that isn't banned/regulated to do the same thing. just like the current unregulated energy drink craze that got around caffine limits in drinks.

yes, let make laws that tell people how to live and what to eat. and lets not stop there, lets tell them what to read and what to think. pretty soon the USA will be like England.
if anything ban factory farming and genetically modified foods. putting patents on organic things is a path that will not lead to anywhere good. |
Buying packaged food and drinks will always be unhealthy. Food wrapped in plastic or canned with preservatives is no good regardless of high fructose corn syrup.
|
We have tried to eliminate high fructose corn syrup in our house completely. I would say we are down to three or so products that have it in it. Hamburger and hot dog rolls are impossible to find w/o HFCS in it unless you make them at home. Then I'm a Mt. Dew fan and syrup for the pancakes. :)
HFCS makes the cost of food much cheaper - it's just sad what it's in. Breads are a biggie ... |
If only there was some type of huge bloated government bureaucracy to tax it.....that would solve the problem!!
|
It's cheap and plentiful and people want it. Good luck with banning it...
I think health education would get better results. |
stop subsidizing ? yes, no doubt about it!
ban it? hell no, too many rules already. |
If you haven't watched it yet "Food, Inc" is a great documentary about the food chain and how the subsidies towards corn production impact the chain as a whole.

The best you can do it give people information and let them make their own choices. You can't let the government become a parent. |

When the nights are below freezing, and the days above, the maple sap flows and you can easily tap into it and gather it. Used to be it took 40 gallons of raw sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. Now with reverse osmosis filtering, you can make 1 gallon of maple syrup from 8 gallons of raw sap. No additives either and no preservatives. |

Go rent the movie "KING OF CORN" You can get it on netflix and it was a good flick. It talks about corn and how we eat as Americans.
|
Wanna see something scarier....watch "The World According to Monsanto". They are out to control the world seed supply and then we are all in the shit.
|
Monsanto and McD's already fed us their potato that produced it's own pesticide by genetic manipulation, didnt they? People may not even be old enough to remember that, lmao. They quietly phased it right back out when people learned of it.
It was mentioned in "The Botany of Desire" that ran on PBS a month or two ago. A really nice show about a few crops that mankind really loves. Apples, Tulips, Marijuana and Potatoes. http://www.pbs.org/thebotanyofdesire/ |
HFCS is some nasty shit.
Someone posted this video here some time ago, check it out. You'll never look at HFCS the same again. It much matter doesn't matter though... Codex Alimentarius will go into effect in 8 days (December 31, 2009), and soon every single thing you put into your mouth (with the exception of pharmaceuticals, of course) will be highly regulated by Codex Alimentarius, including water, yes, water! Some Highlights of Codex: * All nutrients (vitamins and minerals) are to be considered toxins/poisons and are to be removed from all food because Codex prohibits the use of nutrients to "prevent, treat or cure any condition or disease" * All food (including organic) is to be irradiated, removing all toxic nutrients from food (unless eaten locally and raw). * Nutrients allowed will be limited to a Positive List developed by Codex which will include such beneficial nutrients like Fluoride (3.8 mg daily) developed from environmental waste. All other nutrients will be prohibited nationally and internationally to all Codex-compliant countries [2]. * All nutrients (e.g., CoQ10, Vitamins A, B, C, D, Zinc and Magnesium) that have any positive health impact on the body will be deemed illegal under Codex and are to be reduced to amounts negligible to humans' health [3]. * You will not even be able to obtain these anywhere in the world even with a prescription. * All advice on nutrition (including written online or journal articles or oral advice to a friend, family member or anyone) will be illegal. This includes naturalnews.com reports on vitamins and minerals and all nutritionist's consultations. * All dairy cows are to be treated with Monsanto's recombinant bovine growth hormone. * All animals used for food are to be treated with potent antibiotics and exogenous growth hormones. * The reintroduction of deadly and carcinogenic organic pesticides that in 1991, 176 countries (including the U.S.) have banned worldwide including 7 of the 12 worst at the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pesticides (e.g., Hexachlorobenzene, Toxaphene, and Aldrin) will be allowed back into food at elevated levels [4]. * Dangerous and toxic levels (0.5 ppb) of aflotoxin in milk produced from moldy storage conditions of animal feed will be allowed. Aflotoxin is the second most potent (non-radiation) carcinogenic compound known to man. * Mandatory use of growth hormones and antibiotics on all food herds, fish and flocks * Worldwide implementation of unlabeled GMOs into crops, animals, fish and trees. * Elevated levels of residue from pesticides and insecticides that are toxic to humans and animals. Some examples of potential permissible safe levels of nutrients under Codex include [2]: * Niacin - upper limits of 34 mcg daily (effective daily doses include 2000 to 3000 mcgs). * Vitamin C - upper limits of 65 to 225 mcg daily (effective daily doses include 6000 to 10000 mcgs). * Vitamin D - upper limits of 5 μg daily (effective daily doses include 6000 to 10000 μg). * Vitamin E - upper limits of 15 IU of alpha tocopherol only per day, even though alpha tocopherol by itself has been implicated in cell damage and is toxic to the body (effective daily doses of mixed tocopherols include 10000 to 12000 IU). Making people sick is GOOD for business if you are Big Pharma, Big Agribusiness, or Big Chema. :( |

Finally the truth is released.
1. Real whole grain sugar is not bad for humans. Japs wiped out sugar our crops in Hawaii during world war II so US had to replace it with some new and cheaper. 2. High Fructose corn syrup is the nature of the corporate beast. 3. The sugar from corn is what causes diabetes and obesity. 4. Humans can not digest corn properly 5. Kill all natives and Indians who talked us into eating corn back in the day they knew it would eventually wipe us out |

I don't think there need to be laws about it, but cut it out of your diet and watch the pounds fall off.

Drinking and driving is regulated down to a blood alcohol level. Govt. is parenting you.
A label is not a bad idea. Although it doesnt have to say it'll hurt you IMHO, just "contains HFCS" would be fine with me. |

I agree. HFCS is a biochemical poison. Or it should be classified like it because of its nasty effect on your metabolism. Watch this video:
