Need some help from the Mac peeps on here!

So my girlfriend got me an Apple Powerbook G4 for Christmas. I have been on the fence about converting over to total Mac, but this might give me a chance to dip my toes in before the plunge. Anyway, I'm looking for some links, programs and must haves for the Mac. What I really need right now is an FTP program for it. Post up what you got or what you use for your daily grind. It has OSX10.4, but I'm prob going to go 10.5 soon. Thanks!

:thumbsup

Your girlfriend got you a 5 year old laptop for Christmas?

But you can just use FileZilla as the FTP client, although you might have to upgrade to OSX 10.5 first. Oh, and keep in mind that you'll have to use PowerPC versions of all software.

There might not be much you can do with it (new software wise), because the G4 were still PowerPC and not Intel. Most of the new Mac stuff is made for their newer Intel processor stuff.

It might be a good way to get familiar with OSX though, so good luck.

I use fetch for ftp. It's stable and easy to use, and has sftp.

gleem 12-28-2009 08:51 AM

Fetch is the most stable, most use Transmit though for FTP

I use Fetch as well. Never had any problems with it. :thumbsup

I will have to give Fetch a try. Thanks for the help. I will give this a try and see if I can make the switch to a Mac. If I do then I would definitely have to upgrade. This is just a test to see if I can jump in feet first.

I use both of these. Are people just touting Fetch because it's free?

I've been using Mac for day-to-day workflow for the past 2 years.

Coda is great for FTP/quick editing. I haven't found any other app that I like as much as Coda.

BBedit is good for editing.

Also Adium for ICQ etc.
