when people Don't Pay, why do they make up excuses?

When people don't pay, why do they make things worse by making up excuses?

It would be much more tolerable if they would just tell the truth that they don't have the money to pay, at least it would be honest, as you can't get blood out of a stone. Hearing the typical sickness/familly problems/internet problems/bank issues is pretty cliche,

it would be better if they just tell the truth and say "I am flat broke, I am going to be a week late on my rent for the roof over my head as it is and I barely have enough to eat a meal a day at the moment"...

... that is better than hearing "my dog is sick and my bank mixed up my deposits so I can't get it sorted out until I get back from this European business trip, but you will get all your money within an hour of my plane touching down" :2 cents:

I spent all your money on hookers and blow and need you to send me more before I can make it from my back yard to my basement safely to work.

That would be considered a pathetic excuse, whether its true or not. I would be doubly pissed off that the fuckwad ripped me on purpose. Instead of getting off his lazy ass and answering a few classified ads, the cocksucker accepts money for a service that he has no intentions of providing?

There's always some POS job available, and there's always a landlord willing to wait for the rent if he (or she) knows you're gainfully employed. To charge for a service with no intention of delivering is criminal.

Fuck the truth. If you're going to steal, lie about it.

I have that very same question on my mind, I have been waiting for a payment of $2400 right now.

I wasn't really referring to someone that doesn't deliver a service that they can do, but rather someone that owes money that doesn't have it,

again like I said you can't get blood out of a stone, and if they were honest about that fact it would at least save the time and stress thinking that they have the money and are just holding out trying to scam and add to their vast bank account :2 cents:

agreed, but when they come up with a new excuse a week later then it is likely that they are just stalling and/or wasting our time and honesty in the first place would have been more palatable

I have written off a bunch of money in the past from people when I came to realize that it is not worth the negative energy worrying about it when the likelihood of being paid by them is close to nil, and I would be wasting my energy even investing a minute more of my time thinking about it (just typing this has made me remember a couple of people that I hadn't thought about in a decade to the tune of 5 figures and it is a gross feeling just revisiting it, nothing constructive can come of dwelling on them anymore)

what's worse. is the person won't tell you the truth, and say it'll be 3 weeks or something realistic for themselves.

they'll say "oh sorry, i'll get it taken care of in 3 days". then in three days they have to make up ANOTHER excuse.

HerPimp 12-30-2009 10:54 PM

Many people have the money and they do not want to part with it. Hit first, ask questions later.

well if someone told me they blew my money on blow and drinks the night before, I would probably get more pissed off than hearing a "bank transfer problem" excuse :)

isnt it also funny how those who pretend to be the wealthiest on the forums sometimes seem to pay the slowest??

LOL
