Did anyone read Dan Browns new book, "The Lost Symbol"?

I like his stories, just wondered if it's any good this time around?

iSpyCams 01-02-2010 06:19 AM

I enjoyed it, I was a little dissapointed when I found out the extent of the liberties he takes with his "facts" to make his stories or interesting, but I did enjoy reading the book.

i want obama books

Broda 01-02-2010 07:36 AM

I've started on it. But I'm not feeling it. So I keep it as a back-up and read a bit from it now and again.
It's definitely not up to par with his other books.

J. Falcon 01-02-2010 07:50 AM

Dan Brown is a shitty writer.

scuba steve 01-02-2010 11:34 AM

i've read a few of his books, they are all the same-formula, plot twist, etc. its easy to pick out whose the bad guy in the first 50 pages. i do enjoy the set up, the historical points. but as far as story mechanics go, lame

it's crap for the stupid masses

it amazes me how stupid people are. sheep buys into anything.

J. Falcon 01-02-2010 11:57 AM

The Da Vinci Code has to be one of the worst books I ever read in my life. Couldn't even finish it from hos stupid and ridiculous it was. After that I swore to never touch another of his books for as long as I live.

I really can't stand how he makes all his chapters 1 - 3 pages long. It gets really, really annoying after a while.

After I posted this, I read a review on it, seems to be pretty much as you are saying:winkwink:

sexpress 01-02-2010 04:17 PM

Reading it now, about half way at the moment. Have read all of his other books in Swedish, this one I read in English.

fatfoo 01-02-2010 04:22 PM

Nope, I never read it.

Joanna | JOKEREMPIRE Inc. 01-03-2010 05:34 AM

Usually i like to read this kind of crap , they are all the same , but when i start a book from Dan Brown i hardly let it go until i am finished.. i never take it serious , for me is just like another fiction book.

Its not much to do with the church, mostly american history and the freemasons. It would be interesting if more of the "amazing facts" used to set the plot were true, also the end is... not gonna spoil it.

Tasty1 01-03-2010 11:50 PM

reading it now. everey day a few pages before sleeping

AngelBasement$ 01-04-2010 04:03 AM

He should just retire and stay at the top. Kinda hard to emulate DVC.

can you really follow a story line like that? Personally I couldnt:winkwink:

PiffStenis 01-04-2010 05:07 AM

I quite enjoyed it. I found the end quite thought provoking. Still has pretty much the same type of characters and plot - but I was entertained.

magpan 01-04-2010 05:15 AM

I think we've all made Dan Brown rich enough, I won't read another one of his. :)

Completely agree

Porn Girl 01-04-2010 09:31 AM

Its worth the read but it is not his best. Sort of the same formula but still entertaining

Blah...I am a big fiction readers and love reading. Take Robert Ludlum or Alistan Mclean + the new McNeil or Clive Cussler for example....Even though these guys write with the same main characters/set of characters, at least their books are interesting to read and their stories/plots differ...

Dan Brown sucks....I have read all his books, each time hoping it was better than the other one....and can honestly say....he has used the same research he did for his other 2 books (Da Vinci code + Angels & Demons) and created another book with the same typical plot.....the guy has no creativity....Looks like he has run out of juice....

Agreed. I've read two of this books, and they were some of the worst garbage I've ever read.

Hardly. Normally i read a book in a few days. But we are travelling too much.
I read on holidays normally 1 or 2 books about internet/management/marketing and true succes stories. I have 1 book which i read last holiday, but didn't finish it. It lays there till i go on holiday again, only read on holidays.

Further i read David baldacci, Dan Brown, or whatever is available in a second hand bookstore in asia (dont want to travel with kilo's of books).

USA 01-05-2010 02:16 AM

It's ok, a lot of people do. Personally, it's one of the worst piece of crap I ever read. I know it's supposed to be entertainment, but life is too short and there are too many good books out there to waste time on Dan Brown.

If you want a book about the same subject as DVC but written from someone who can actually write and has great level of culture, read The Foucault Pendulum by Umberto Eco.

Paul Markham 01-05-2010 11:17 AM

I was given the book for Xmas and lost interest in reading it after the first few pages. It's too predictable.
