Ideas on how to lose fat

Any good ideas on how to lose fat without spending much money?

HDADULT 01-02-2010 04:02 PM

Diet is like 80% of it and good food is not cheap so its not easy without spending some cash.

Juicy D. Links 01-02-2010 04:02 PM

I just thought of something: the less food you buy - the less money you spend - that's it.

No alcohol, eat 3 times a day, eat sensibly (lots of fruit & veg, lean meats), no snacking. Walk a little. The pounds will drop off.

fatfoo 01-02-2010 04:16 PM

I am almost in the physical shape I want to be. I was exercising and losing weight a lot in 2009.

Horny Joe 01-02-2010 04:16 PM

I started a diet a few weeks ago. Besides all the chocolate and icecream I eat ( :) ), I try to eat mostly meat with little carbs/fat, like chicken. Beans and vegetables... Fish... Stay away from potatoes and white bread. Eat often, 5-6 times a day. Breakfast, luch and dinner. Fruits inbetween. NO DINNER AFTER 6AM. Drink tea and water. Excercise! No just walking... you got to sweat and get your heart pumping... Sex is good excercise ;)

Chickenbreast fried in a little bit of oliveoil and curry paste - delicious! Salad on the side.

JD 01-02-2010 04:19 PM

running and a medium to low carb diet will rock your socks off. My brother in law lost like 80lbs in 6months doing exactly that

cam_girls 01-02-2010 04:19 PM

3 average size meals a day, cut down on takeaway, substitute coffee for snacks

That never works. Eating less doesn't solve the problem; eating less shit-food is. And by that i mean junk-food, sweets, sodas, alcohol and white bread if possible.

In fact skipping meals actually leads to gaining weight so don't do it.

If you have issues with some food, like being unable to eat certain vegetables and such go to a nutritionist, they'll fix you up a fitting diet. I actually advise going to a specialist regardless but it's up to you.

G'luck.

They will say, "Fatfoo!?! Look, he's not fat anymore!!!"

Eat small frequent meals, cardio twice a day, lots of water = watch the fat fall off.

Believe it or not, starving yourself is worse than anything. You may lose some weight, but you'll feel like shit and gain it all back when you start eating again -- and you WILL start eating again.

The trick is to keep your metabolism up by keeping it working all day long. This means snacking(healthy) so your metabolism never stops. Seems counter-intuitive, but it works. Also, make the first meal of the day the biggest, and taper them off as the day goes on. Don't make a huge production out of dinner, keep it small and light.

Vjo 01-02-2010 06:51 PM

Some real good advice in this thread.

On the one hand potatoes on their face seem pretty good to eat as they are only like 200 calories (without topping)

But I noticed they do seem to make the weight go up when you lean on them. Mybe they soak up a lot of water and the weight is only temporary. I have heard some people say to eat potates as a way to keep filled up without too many calories. So I am unsure about potatoes. They are a starch and certainly flour will fatten you. But one is a grain and one a vegtable so I don't know what to think on potatoes. :)

But real good advice on frequent small meals. You have to get in the habbit of smaller portions but more often. It can be hard to not fall back into old portion sizes and eat too much.

Its all about what you percieve that you need to eat (at a meal) and what you really need to eat.

Jarmusch 01-02-2010 07:01 PM

Consuming fewer calories than you burn usually does the trick.

But if your idea of reducing calories is to eat a bag of chips a day instead of two, you won't see much progress. ;)

Vjo 01-02-2010 07:11 PM

And remember it takes 20 mins for the stomach to signal the brain.

So for an experiment next time you are fairly hungry (but not famished) have about 50% as much of whatever you usually have. Eat it. You'll prob feel hungry yet. Wait 20 mins and sure as heck you are not that hungry anymore.

In all this portion control and smaller frequent meals the stomach really does shrink.

And this is something you must watch out for. Say 2 weeks into smaller meals you get hammered one night or something :) and forget your new portion sizes, you can very easily over eat and "pull a gut" on less food than you could eat just 2 weeks back. Happened to me more than once. :)

Must recondition the mind to proper serving sizes. Somewhere you (we) went over that line.

Tjeezers 01-02-2010 07:14 PM

Lower the temperature of your bedroom
Sleep in a cold room and your body will burn more fat while you sleep

kmanrox 01-02-2010 07:16 PM

cardio every day for 30 minutes or more... eat small meals rotating from a small amount of carbs to protein, 6 meals a day... every time i stick to this routine i lose all my weight.... if you add in protein shakes and gym time you'll gain a bunch of muscle too

here is a good forum where you can find some help:

raven1083 01-02-2010 07:22 PM

exercise be confused of what you eat

Chosen 01-02-2010 07:34 PM

Stop eating. Plain & simple :)

Vjo 01-02-2010 07:42 PM

Also physical activity is not a license to hog out. :)

For example I did full snow removal 3 out of 4 days and on my feet walking at least 2 hours/day. Trouble is I felt with all that activity I earned the extra slice of pizza , the extra chocolate chip cookie (made with palm oil and good ingredients, a "reward" tempting me hehe) ect ect. Yeah I seen the snow coming and had some comfort foods to fuel me thru this snowstorm.

and guess what after day 4 I actually gained 4 fucking lbs. What a ball buster.

So yeah you have to work out and also maintain portion control.

Sheesh this shit is so hard. So many ways to f up. :) lol

For a young tough buck like yourself the best way is counting calories with maybe a little jog or walk 3 times a week.

Prob work for me too.

I did that at about age 25.. went from 210 to 190 (at about 6' 2)

hehe back then I thought 6' 2' and 210 was getting a bit tubby hehe I d go back to that now.

But yeah it does work but takes will power.

When you get to a certain age, you just want to keep in reasonable shape. Counting calories is too drastic and would cramp my style way too much for what it's worth.

You need to know how much to eat. That is where thin people are in touch and fat arent.

At 25 that shit is easy tho. :)

Look up your rates at weightwatchers.com and begin counting calories. :)

some great answers here and some not so great.

Water: Drink lot's of it: All natural diet: Do NOT eat processed foods unless you make them yourself. This includes all spices, dairy, wheat, or anything with gluten. Read the supplements carefully before you take them. Exercise: Instead of running on the treadmill elevate and walk. You'll burn more calories and save your knees.

Good solid info JC. Amen brotha. Agree on not eating processed foods. I prepare all my own stuff from scratch usually beef oriented (i know I know) and also some baked chick breasts. Point is, if I eat any processed foods, I well, frankly I would be sleeping instead of jousting with you young bucks. :)

How do you feel on dairy? Say maybe 3 oz cheese/day on ave figuring in what is on a pizza once in a while say twice a week.

My weeknesses. Sweets. and Cheese. Esp late. :(

Also Albacore tuna is great! :)

CreamyMedia 01-02-2010 08:25 PM

Eating several smaller meals during the course of the day is the way forward coupled with exercise using higher reps.

stop shoveling food into your mouth

Vjo 01-02-2010 08:32 PM

Also corn chips. Perfect food but for example... We have Old Dutch out of Saint Paul, MN up here. Great corn chip. First to really put out a chip with three ingredients (yes ahead of Frito Lay) Corn, oil (usually canola or a healthy one) and salt.

Very healthy if you dont eat too many. But corn has been known to be quite fattening. They fatten livestock with corn any good farm boy will tell ya. Anyhow I am thinking corn chips may be the hidden link keeping me from 210 again. :)

Everything in moderation is best but some foods even if you try to eat "only a little" can be more prone to holding you back. (all breads, corn chips, chocolate, candy in all its forms)

JadaY 01-02-2010 08:38 PM

are you people retarded? coming up with all these dumb ass ideas to lose fat?

it's not a fucking rocket surgery - STOP FUCKING EATING. How hard is it to figure out? You eat food = you gain weight. You dont eat food = you lose weight.

How many fat jews there were in Auschwitz?
Exactly.

So just take the amount of whatever you consume daily and cut it in half.

clubchics 01-02-2010 08:41 PM

The question was not losing weight but reducing his fat levels.

Vjo 01-02-2010 08:50 PM

I guess frozen pizza (deluxe with all that greasy pepperoni and sausage) would be considered processed too. :( Damn!

Now see I've made pizzas by hand but now were going too far. :)

I know pizza is prob the worst. All that white flour in the crust, all that grease, all that cheese.

Fact is I was a thin guy till I worked 6+ years at Dominos Pizza. I delivered four floor pies all night and still put on weight cause we could run out the door with a greasy slice on the hotbag almost anytime. Went from thin to a belly even though I worked an active job.

Nothing more fattening than Dominos. Check the charts. :)

True story.

Vjo 01-02-2010 09:02 PM

Overweight people are experts at losing weight but at the end of the day they (we) (I) say f it and have the pizza and the candy. :)

I once had a fat cat. (Rascal) I'll give him fame. :) My friend said you should put him on a diet.

Years later at age 17 I could put my hand on his back and touch my middle finger to thumb he was no more than a silver dollar sized.

In the end I was glad I let him enjoy life. No diet. Let him eat what he wanted. Cat never heard of a diet. He just liked to eat a bit more.

And in the end he lived as long as most of my cats do.

I learn from my cats as I see the entirety of life. We will all be skinny soon enough. Real skinny. :)

That is in my workout schedule for sure. :thumbsup lol

You see NOW were talking "exercise" I can get into.

Vacuuming, paint the house, mow, snow removal ect ect.

That shit is my exercise. : )

Like Dog the Bounty Hunter, On one show he mentioned how he vacuumes the office himself everyday. And I'm thinking now that is smart.. get something out of your "exercise". :winkwink:

I have to disagree with this. While it's true certain fine foods are both nutritious and very healthy, by and large, it is not difficult to eat healthy food inexpensively.

if you lived in NYC you can play handball...we have around 2,500 public one-wall handball courts throughout the parks in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and even Long Island.
