Iron Fist 01-04-2010 07:23 AM

Cue the mountain of movies mimicing Avatar..

SomeCreep 01-04-2010 08:54 AM

i liked the dark knight better.

czarina 01-04-2010 08:59 AM

1 billion dollars... WOW! But then again, the movie deserves it. Best I've seen, ever.

SykkBoy 01-04-2010 09:10 AM

I wonder how much of that gross is padded by the fact the ticket prices are higher due to the 3D glasses...however, still amazing numbers....

Lykos 01-04-2010 11:14 AM

Amazing movie!

StuartD 01-04-2010 11:23 AM

This movie has the potential to ruin the movie industry.... mark my words.
It has set the bar so high that people's expectations will rise to meet it which means unless a movie costs $200m+, it won't get audiences.

And once you start pushing those numbers, a $100m revenue movie will no longer be a blockbuster, it'll be a bomb... having lost a lot of money.

It'll quickly go the way of the gaming industry where you get 3 or 4 great ones in a year but then a bunch of trash the rest of the way as only the very top of the top can even afford much less be able to pull off something that the audience will tolerate.

And we all know that the best movies are the inspirational, moving and/or touching movies but those movies make more in awards than they do dollars.

Money making in Hollywood may never be the same once movie makers and audiences start expecting more Avatar's in the future.

Scott McD 01-04-2010 11:43 AM

Hmmmm, i wasn't gonna bother checking it out and just wait for the dvd, but i could still be tempted just to see what the fuss is about...

The Duck 01-04-2010 11:45 AM

Didnt see it yet. Dont know what all the fuss is about.

cwd 01-04-2010 11:48 AM

heard some good things, might have to go and check it.

BlackCrayon 01-04-2010 11:50 AM

i think the big key to this movie is that you will not get anywhere near the same experience with bootlegs so its bringing out many of the people who just download.

Evil Chris 01-04-2010 11:52 AM

It's cuz there is NOTHING ELSE out there to go see.

JustDaveXxx 01-04-2010 08:16 PM

This movie is sick!! Even the subtitling is sick!! The story was good, but the 3D was out of this world. It is a theater must see! I saw it in IMAX was way worth the line wait and the cost.

Its not just a movie, its an experience. You will feel like you are in it.

EscortBizPro is the most pessimistic "yea right what ever man" guy i know and he saw it last night and was blown away. Its that good.

MetaMan 01-04-2010 08:19 PM

Saw it on the weekend loved it, move had no holes and had me drawn in the entire movie.

Quite the opposite. The movie industry has been losing money over the last several years because people could rent it on netflix and watch it in the comforts of home on a monster plasma screen and surround sound.

This type of experience requires people go to the movies. Furthermore, the technology means pirates no longer will make the profits they once did.

PornMD 01-04-2010 10:26 PM

Old news...this was posted in the "Did Avatar die out?" thread yesterday, lol. Talk about title fail in that thread.

JD 01-04-2010 10:35 PM

tiger 01-05-2010 01:56 AM

Big money! Can't wait to see it.
