fatfoo 01-04-2010 11:37 AM

You mean that money actually matters for something?

I thought it was just a bunch of papers to throw away.

L-Pink 01-04-2010 11:42 AM

What? That unions and entitlement programs can bankrupt a city? Or you have a better chance of going to prison than graduating from college?

Yea I believe it!

You seriously don't associate it with the death of an industry? did the unions add to the problem for sure.

But this - "Blame the fucking liberals, keep electing them and every city in this country will end up the same.. " Nope, that is total BS.

FYI when the economy was rocking in every other part of the nation Detroit still looked like this down town. Long before the auto industry was looking for bailouts it was unsafe to walk the streets in daylight.

The auto industry isn't dead, it's just dead in Detroit. Why is it dead in Detroit? I'd say a fair mix of bad management and bloated unions is probably spot on.

Bird 01-04-2010 01:38 PM

smart, there should be more reports like this

Yup I agree with that too. Money just doesn't disapear.. Most of their spend goes to over paid employees

Blame the liberals? Who's policies were the problem? Conservatives? Don't think so.

Meanwhile you seem to ignore all the jobs that were sent over seas. How many small auto related companies whom were based in Detroit went out of biz because their contracts were shipped to Mexico or China?

Hell how many auto industry jobs have been lost to that? Look at the other cities that had auto related factories, close up whom were the essential base for their cities and they are in as bad shape job wise as Detroit.

If the jobs were still in Detroit, then it wouldn't be in the situation it's in today, however as this video is just a obvious smear campaign made by the "Rightist" they will never admit that. Mainly because they are largely to blame for sending those jobs to Mexico and China.

GAMMA303 01-04-2010 06:51 PM

Crazy. I've been to Detroit once.

It was wild seeing Sky Scrapers with boarded up windows.

yep, there were always horrid parts of detroit. i remember once ending up in the ghettos following a car that was driving along with four flat tires. there is just a lot more of the shitty ghetto areas than there was previously.

slapass 01-04-2010 07:27 PM

So why isn't Portland, Seattle or Minneapolis in the same boat? There are plenty of liberal cities that are not like that. It is not a direct cause and effect was my statement.

Matt 26z 01-04-2010 10:27 PM

Liberals made manufacturing want to leave America.

Conservatives allowed manufacturing to leave America, and maybe even encouraged it.

Each played a key role in fucking the country.

It's pretty much like when a TV show gets so popular that they can't afford to continue paying the actors, so they end the show. That is what happened to Detroit.

LIBERALS RUIN EVERYTHING

cambaby 01-05-2010 05:08 AM

Unfortunately this video is spot on about what happened to Detroit, sure its comfy and cozy to blame businesses moving to China but why wouldnt you move your business to China if you could profit more? If the government would have made America comparable to China and Mexico for business Detroit would still be very well off. The brand of Socialism that Democrats in America practice is more like Communism, its power, programs and management are all central based in the government compared to local which is what the ideal social situation should be. Detroit looks a lot like many formerly large Russian cities. Such a shame America is going down this path.

Are you mentally retarded? You want america to be more like china and mexico in terms of wages and working conditions? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Of course its more profitable to pay your employees slave wages and have them work long hours in dangerous conditions where you don't have to worry about how much pollution you spew out or how many employees get injured. If you really think this is the solution, think some more...and then think even harder. Its not.

You do realize America went through an industrial revolution as well, where we paid lower wages and didnt have as many taxes and regulations? Not every business in China pays "slave wages" and has "dangerous conditions and spews pollution". America just has to be COMPETITIVE and ATTRACTIVE for business, each and every day its becoming less and less so.

Besides its obvious when you throw terms around like "slave wages", "spew pollution" and "dangerous conditions" what kind of person you are, either you are a liberal or you are a troll. Either way your argument was pretty pathetic and uneducated.

Edit: Ahh I see you are Canadian, that explains your post. Well at least I gave your country the respect of capitalizing your country name, something you failed to do for my country in your post.

Please tell me how you would make the US more attractive for businesses then? The cost of living is constantly going up but you apparently want people to accept lower wages, less benefits (if any) and god knows what else. You are looking for the easiest answer. Its certainly not the best and not a very viable one.

The cost of living is going up because WAGES are going up, wages are going up because TAXES are going up, taxes are going up because GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS cost more.

It is a proven fact that when you cut government programs, lower taxes and keep wages in check that businesses GROW, which creates more jobs, which creates more spending, which generates more taxes.

Why are these concepts so hard to understand?

No system is perfect, but the United States did not become the most powerful nation in the history of mankind based on free handouts and socialism programs.

zabijaq 01-05-2010 07:28 AM

What does liberals have to do with cars that can't compete with worldwide competition?

And that video is pure propaganda. Unions are problems in whole US, not just Detroit.

The cost of living might go up in part because of increased taxes but also because of increased greed. Every quarter every major company has to post increased profits to keep stockholders happy which is impossible to keep up, so they make things cheaper (ie foreign labor, cheaper materials) and charge people more for them. Eventually they will have nowhere to go..

I love the States and I am not in favor of handouts and yes, there is a lot of government fat that can be trimmed although I do feel some social programs are very important. Its real easy to make the government the scapegoat for everything but lowering taxes will not fix the problem. With the debt the way it is its nearly impossible to do so and every president that has lowered taxes ended up raising taxes in some way down the road.

Pure and simple third world labor vs America/EU labor just can't compare. Its an unfair playing ground in which a lot of big US/EU companies are taking advantage of. This is something never seen before in history so any compairisons to the industrial revolution are meaningless.

The people of US/EU are just going to have to buck it up and just plain work harder and smarter. We have to create initiatives for our businesses to stay here, we have to reward innovation, we have to reward hard work. If we continue to reward the generations of spoiled Americans we have now for doing nothing, we are doomed.

Think about this, even the POOREST PERSON IN AMERICA has got it better than many middle class citizens in China. There are jobs out there for these uneducated poor Americans, they would just rather live off the government(and other people). This nation is fucking spoiled, THAT is the ultimate problem. The last two generations of Americans as a whole have been lazy and spoiled and its time for them to wake the fuck up.
