Why is windows 7 so slow?

I even googled how to speed it up but it's nothing compared to the speed of xp

stickyfingerz 01-04-2010 04:41 PM

Need a smidge more info before anyone can tell you anything. Machine specs you are on? Did you upgrade or a clean install? So may variables. Im on win 7 typing this and it flies.

Jdoughs 01-04-2010 04:44 PM

Windows 7 is fast, some computers running it may not be so fast.

xenigo 01-04-2010 04:45 PM

Sounds like you need to uninstall the spyware & trojans. :1orglaugh

Nurgle 01-04-2010 04:46 PM

james_clickmemedia 01-04-2010 04:52 PM

I am leaving the computers in the office with xp on them.

Domain Broker 01-04-2010 04:55 PM

If Windows 7 is slow for you then you suck.

baddog 01-04-2010 05:08 PM

You are the first person I have seen say anything negative about win7

mkx 01-04-2010 05:20 PM

Using Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60 GHZ 1.00 GB Ram Brand new Asus EEE Box computer. I know it's not the best computer but its brand new and just did a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate.

baddog 01-04-2010 05:23 PM

I did not know you could still buy computers with such low specs. When did they make it? 2001?

mkx 01-04-2010 05:28 PM

:( works fine on xp. Its really small, fits on back of monitor. Not using it for anything intense, just web browsing.

Jdoughs 01-04-2010 05:28 PM

Windows 7 "Ultimate" (feature loaded) don't seem like a logical match for 1gb or Ram. With another gig it would probably rock, I would think you could tone down a lot of its features, basically a Windows 7 normal would most likely be faster.

Brad Mitchell 01-04-2010 05:30 PM

So far I think it's very fast... and I have it running on a new Sony Vaio X Notebook which isn't the fastest cookie in the world by comparison to today's regular dual and quad cores.

1 gig of ram is the first warning bell.

stickyfingerz 01-04-2010 05:43 PM

There are probably a lot of tweaks you can do, but you can't really expect it to be too speedy running anything.

That's the Atom processor, just meant for tiny netbooks. They aren't good for anything but surfing the web and emailing with maximum battery life. They have been around only since 2008.

I think the fastest one they make today is 2Ghz.

StuartD 01-04-2010 05:47 PM

user error?

Fat Panda 01-04-2010 05:53 PM

cause windows 7 fucking sucks

xenigo 01-04-2010 05:56 PM

You can't possibly expect fast performance from anything with an Atom processor. They have such little horsepower, you'll be lucky to view an HD YouTube video with it, honestly.

MaDalton 01-04-2010 06:07 PM

i installed win 7 yesterday on a P4 with 1 GB - if you don't try to play HD video it's totally fine. but always the first thing i do is switch back to windows 2000 GUI - all those colors and effects are annoying and cost speed

My husband got me a new dell for Christmas and it has Windows 7 on it with 6GB of RAM and this damn thing flies. I HATED Vista and he knew it, so he took that Vista crap and got me a new one with Win 7 on it, I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am with it. :thumbsup

Aren't standard netbook specs pretty weak?

Glenn Beck 01-04-2010 07:43 PM

it's slow because microsoft is a bloated liberal bureaucracy

dav3 01-04-2010 07:44 PM

Do the stuff listed on this page:
http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/supertweaks.htm

MsCheyenne 01-04-2010 07:56 PM

Windows 7 is the only MS operating system that I have liked. I find it much faster and all around better than XP or Vista. Hmmm...have you ran a spy sweep lately?

Cheyenne

Twisted Dave 01-05-2010 12:46 AM

I use Windows 7 and it's brutally fast. I don't have any problems with it.

If you're not getting the speed you want, try reinstalling. Not only that, but try using a PC that wasn't designed with the XP era in mind. Remember, XP is old tech and SO many cool things in Win7 simply don't exist in XP. Windows 7 makes me more productive as I can search quicker, move files easier, use newer better apps that aren't XP compatible etc ...

Windows 7 is better. Fact. :)

That 1gb of ram is definitely holding you back

Use ReadyBoost! I have it installed on a memorycard and it DO speed up a little!
That being said - Try to clean up crap with CCleaner and NCleaner.

More the case that he installed W7 Ultimate on 1gb ram.

I have W7 Ultimate on my netbook, but it has 3gb ram, and it runs fast.
Love my HP Mini 311 :D

Raf1 01-05-2010 09:35 AM

it's working fine here

stoner529 01-05-2010 09:40 AM

1 gb will work if you dont do anything. that is the bare minimum for a 32 bit system.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...uirements.aspx.

you always need more then that? do you ever look at your task manager to see how much gb and memory you use?

TMM_John 01-05-2010 09:44 AM

Windows 7 is garbage. Everyone says its faster, but I installed it on my 486DX2 and it runs really slow. Fucking Microsoft. I'm getting a Mac like that guy on the commercial tells me I should.

_Richard_ 01-05-2010 09:46 AM

looks like you need more ram

mkx 01-08-2010 12:17 AM

ill try it again when i get a better computer, for now it kept freezing and shit and im back to xp
