There has been some really comical shit here and some funny hoaxes. Some that seemed like hoaxes but probably weren't - like that Stephen Takaks episode - the retarded body builder kid who was thin as a rail... where his dad showed up and started posting.

I vaguely remember some comedy with someone posting as an attorney for McDonalds over some use of pics in a thread.

Boneprone has done (or been accused of) some good ones

The $20k+ hoax NoCarrier pulled on us all was pretty good.

that and alienq/amp coming back over and over again claiming they found themselves and are normal now. Then losing control of themselves badly within 2 weeks and never being able to stabilize themselves. Not so sure those are hoaxes per say but fucking funny none the less

The Stephen Takacs thread was hilarious even if a bit crude since he was clearly mentally disabled. I do think it was a fake nick posting as his dad, but Stephen and his site were indeed real. did he really have a kid that was sick? i mean, was it something started with good intentions and a real cause that went sideways? he collected a lot of money and it turned out his kid was fine but the money dissapeared?

a really long time ago I remember a story/thread/pics about AaronM or someone getting arrested in Mexico and an elite team of webmasters went in navy seals style to rescue him.

It was too many years back but someone posted a iFrame in their post which caused some panic on the board, it was made to look like this person had access to the root of our computers, this was 6 yrs or more back :)

That's exactly how I think it went down. His son was diagnosed with a condition, he panicked and went to GFY immediately before awaiting more medical evaluations or going to his family and friends for help. He assumed he was going to need treatment in the USA and it would cost him a fortune. Turned out he didn't need to and his Canadian insurance covered most of the cost and his son's condition turned out to be not as serious as initially thought. Last I remember his son was doing well.

I would venture to say he's posted here under another nick. At the time this happened he had been posting here constantly every day. Then the big rally to raise money started and upon completion he stopped posting almost instantly, that's what gave people a very uneasy feeling.

That sounds like the work of Smokey, he's done a few tricks on the forum that were hilarious. He used to find several vulnerabilities in the forum software and would exploit them when gfy didnt listen to him about fixing them.

Yeah I'm not sure who posted it but it made me look twice, browsing the board and low and behold there is the root of my computer showing on the board, directories files everything he he, took a bit to finally figure out what it was :) it was back when iFrame was still new!!

I was never interviewed but to best of my knowledge it was bullshit andhe did collect over 20k. He argued a but about it and then dissapeared.

And turns out his father was a rich banker ........

That shit drives me crazy.

I'm fortunate enough not to have been taken by any fakers that I'm aware of and I;ve donated my fair share of money over the years to people in need- some of which posted and are no longer with us anymore. :(

There have been so many scammers out lately- GFY and Elsewhere- it's really left me jaded.

I liked it when TheFly made up some contest and offered prizes from a bunch of people without even telling them. Then when people wanted to collect their prizes they found out it was all made up.

I was just looking back at some of his threads the other day. I didn't know him well enough to know whether or not he was a piece of shit... I actually respected the level of success it appeared he achieved.

I did recall thinking his "leaving the industry" e-book was kinda odd.

So was he as successful as he made himself out to be?

From what I understand his success was perceived and not actual. Someone that knew him better could correct us.

Aaron in jail was one of my favorite ones. It's hard to say, there have been many crazy situations over the years.

That was kind of my point. No one could win your contest since no one could generate even a measly 2.5 sales per day with your crappy program/sites.

Here were the terms for your contest, which you spammed the board with for a couple of months:

The fact is, by your own account, you didn't pay out any gold, not $20,300 worth, not $1 worth.

You were repeatedly asked to show proof that the gold even existed, and you did not. And when the contest ended, many people suggested it would be a good gesture for you to at least give some sort of prize to the top seller, and you wouldn't even do that.

Many people would consider a contest which is hyped for months, with big promises of large prizes, and then pays nothing in prizes at the end, to be a hoax.

This thread is about hoaxes, and not about you personally. If I wanted to make it personal, it would certainly make you look a helluva lot worse, given the number of people that know you whom you have pissed off for one reason or another.

Anyway, since you asked, the shows I usually attend are well-documented since pictures from them are posted here and on my websites. Adult shows that I have attended include AEE/AVN, InterNext Las Vegas, Erotica-LA, AdultCon, Asianmodelpalooza, X-Biz Summer, CyberNet Expo, and occasionally some of the Webmaster Access shows on the West Coast.

I keep planning to attend the Phoenix Forum, but I don't usually finalize plans to attend any given show until the last moment, given the nature of my schedule. I also attend numerous car shows, model expos, and other non-adult computer shows and various business trade shows.

I know you have been to a few shows (Costa Rica, Atlanta Forum - where someone suggested that you were pimping your own Fiance/GF at, probably since your wife had quit supporting you and took off with the kids to escape you - but I digress).
