Men of a Certain Age = Great new show!
I had actually been looking forward to this show for a long time...TNT was advertising it a lot and it had Scott Bakula whom I've always liked as an actor, plus in general it seemed interesting. Unfortunately in the midst of preparing for holidays, I missed the first two episodes (FYI it's on at like 7 or 8 PM on Mondays on TNT). I've caught the last 3 episodes and must say that it's probably my new favorite show at the moment (at least 'til Dexter is back). It's more "real" than both reality shows and scripted shows IMO - they do a good job of trying to make it a realistic show, real and deep characters, moments of humor, moments of frustration and anger, etc. Even Ray Romano, who most people probably would have assumed would play exactly the same character as in Everybody Loves Raymond, does play a slightly similar quirky character, but it's both drama and comedic and he does well at both and a lot better than I was expecting. The real winner is Andre Braugher...I've seen him in other stuff but he does excellent acting in this. I probably relate most to his character as it is, probably because of all of them, he seems to have the least that's gone right even though he's the currently married one.
Anyways, just like life, good shit happens, bad shit happens...sometimes (in fact thus far OFTENtimes), the episode ends on a BAD note vs. all the scripted shows where everything "works out" in the end...not always so in this. Basically everyone's coping with stuff like ended marriage, teenage kids, shitty job, figuring out your purpose in life, etc., but does it on subtle deep levels while at the same time having some funny moments etc. Just watch it and see...supposedly the 2 episodes I haven't yet watched are worse than #s 3-5 that I have seen, but Hulu links to episodes 1-3 so far: http://www.hulu.com/search?query=Men...rtain+Age&st=1.
Anyone else dig this show?
