Switzerland millionaire hit by record speed fine


The tycoon was reportedly driving a Ferrari 57km/h (35mph) over the limit
A Swiss millionaire has been handed down a record speeding fine of $290,000 (£180,000) by a court.
The man was reportedly caught driving a red Ferrari Testarossa at 137km/h (85mph) through a village.
The penalty was calculated based on the unnamed motorist's wealth - assessed by the court as $22.7m (£14.1m) - and because he was a repeat offender.
It is more than double Switzerland's previous record speeding fine - handed to a Porsche driver in Zurich in 2008.
In the latest case, the motorist was clocked speeding 57km/h (35mph) faster than the limit, according to the cantonal court in St Gallen, eastern Switzerland.
"The accused ignored elementary traffic rules with a powerful vehicle out of a pure desire for speed," the court said in its judgement.
Swiss media reported that the man owns a villa with five luxury cars, including the Ferrari.

Fuck me! I was doing 110mph when I was pulled over on the M3 here in the UK. The copper hadnt clocked anything, he just pulled myself straight over when I drove past. He let me go with a warning.
About 20mins before, I was hitting 170 though! :Oh crap What the fuck would he have done if I drove past him at that sort of speed! :(

I did drive home at around 90 after being told to slow down thouh! :thumbsup

It has to hurt him. What point would the 'penalty' have otherwise? A guy making 100k a month wouldn't really care if he got a $1000 fine.. where as a guy making 2k per month would find it rather devastating. I'd assume guys would pay a bit more attention to roadrules if the fines they got were relative to their wealth/income.

In finland you get fined by your last years income (based on taxes paid).

There's a minimum amount though, so poor people have to pay a certain amount no matter what.

BMW M3's can go over 170mph, if delimited. The current E92 M3 tops out at around 180-185mph.

That's insane for the simple reason that this tactic should be applied to everybody and concerning all payments one has to do to the state OR NOT.Yet we're living in an insane world.

well, as much as I agree with the successful part, he's a repeat offender, so obviously the money he has, went to his head. Living where he is, he's obviously aware of what the fines are if you get caught.

A guy in Western Australia had his Ferrari locked up under anti-hoon laws because his mechanic took it for a quick spin!

Last year a guy lost his Porsche in Victoria under anti-hoon laws for doing 70km over the speed limit, he's still to get it back.

That fine is ridiculously large, but a normal fine didn't seem to do the job if this is something he does repeatedly

I run a skyline r33 gtr. 180mph I shall see if I can get more out of it some day :winkwink: While I was at 170, the turbos were running smooth, the rpm were at 7500 out of red line 9000 and the whole car seemed to be running flat with no problems, I could look down at the dials briefly with no course of worry. Its a gem of a car! :thumbsup
