US sitcom series - so fucking DUMB!
serious ... i DO enjoy sitcom, but whats wrong with US series? i mean, i KNOW when to laugh, so WHY is there ALWAYS laughter from the off when smth funny happens/is said? really ... are US folks too dumb to know when its "time to laugh"? or is it annoying to you too? or, is it just like that: you need to be told :error

Lots of shows use laugh tracks (even from different countries). Yes, they are horrible.
Back in the day, they use to actually film some of the shows in front of a live studio audience, so the laughter was real. I guess when they stopped doing that, they felt they needed to keep the laughter in there because people were so used to it, so they added it in themselves. Horrible, horrible idea. |
yes yes and yes

well, the only series i dont mind the laugh tracks is AL BUNDY ... i cant help it, but THAT series is so fucking funny (still) it always makes me go ape lol ... good to know i am not alone with my laugh track allergy :thumbsup

I don't even hear the laughs anymore...seriously, when I see a good new sitcom, I have to think afterwards, if it was there or not. It only bothers me when its too loud, but that was only in the 90s.

rhat is so shitty

A lot of those shows are filmed in front of an audience..

Actually to me, if I just watch the show and don't pay attention to it, I'm ok, but if I take the time to notice it, it drives me nuts. It's like there's laughs after EVERYTHING they say, even if it's not remotely funny.

I hate that too..

100% of shows on TV feature laugh tracks now, its been used since Johnny Carson, he was against it, but was forced to start using it too.
Laugh tracks cause people to laugh, its a sheep thing. And it works. |

a useless factoid:
hogan's heroes was the 1st show to get the green light due to a laff track. tests audiences who viewed the show without the laff track didn't get it. |
Although I believe sit com and the fake laugh is originally a US genre, there hasn't been anything worse then local Euro (trash) "sit coms".
I guess you can't expect too much, but those are so bad they couldn't work even if tested in mental asylum, the least demanding monkeys in the zoo would shake heads in embarrassment. I remember I used to be quite a fan of The Cosby show, I also remember Anthrax playing in "Al Bunda", some were not bad, and laugh won't harm if there's actually something funny. Lately I kind of enjoyed "The Family" and that sitcom about the IT nerds, both British. |
Another reason to become a Scrubs fanboi. :)

the office and 30 rock dont and those shows are so fucking funny. i could prolly list more if i took an extra 5 mins. |
Laugh tracks suck. They cue people on when to laugh.. just like a punch in the nose is a cue to bleed. Makes sense.
