VCD's are hugely popular throughout asian and the pacific rim. wierd how it was huge for that region yet in the US it never caught on. Quality was "ok" but nowhere near DVD quality.

No shit, I live in Manila and they're everywhere. Way cheaper than legit DVDS (not that anyone buys legit DVDS here). I figured what the fuck and bought a couple. They're only like $2 each. Open it up and it has 2 discs. Figured it had the extra content you usually get when you buy a legit disc so not too bad for $2 b/c you never get that stuff on a pirated disc.

WRONG

Halfway through the damn movie it stops and I have to pop in the 2nd disc to finish the movie.

VCD = FAIL.

yup VCD's were like LD's.. better quality than VHS but still a pain in the ass.. LD's were $40-60 per movie so you had to really love the movie to want to buy it and LDs are 2 sided.. My 3rd LD player was 2 side play but even then the was a 8 second lapse in the movie while the laser moved to the other side of the disc.. I had a local record store that rented out LD's and I bought like 20 movies on LD that I really loved but rented them all the time.. Oh yeah LD's were not to be left in your car in the summer for any amount of time cause they would warp way easier than cds :1orglaugh (bought 2 rentals that way once)
