Who gets shit from family and friends about the odd hours they work?

Perrie and me work odd hours sometimes ... we frequently go to bed when the sun comes up and get up middle of the day. Yet we often put in 14 - 16 hours a day or more ... so we work hard.

Family and friends seem to think that we'll get ill or we'll be more tired because we're not sleeping the same hours as everyone else. Yet we don't need to. We don't get more ill. And we're never more tired.

Another one is ... "You must never see sunlight"

My answer is ... during the summer especially, we see MORE sun than those 9 - 5 guys ... because we wake up. ... get showered and dressed and go OUT into the sun for a few hours! We soak what sun there is up, and then go back home and work into the night.

Anyone else get this kind of blind attitude from people? :)

Juicy D. Links 01-14-2010 04:57 AM

i just woke up i got like a hour of sleep.... maybe 2 hrs....

I feel like a bankgock whore

Twisted Dave 01-14-2010 04:58 AM

Juicy, you're not helping my cause! LOL! Get some damn sleep man!

2MuchMark 01-14-2010 05:00 AM

Sleep? Never heard of it.

naughtylaura 01-14-2010 05:39 AM

ALL THE TIME!! It's 12:35pm here in the uk, I havent been to bed yet. I tend to work better when everyone else is asleep, nobody on msn/ ICQ etc and I can push out lots more work. I'm always getting told "you're going to get ill, you need more sleep, and you're getting no sun light" but it just makes more sense to me to work whilst nobody's awake to bug me. Lol. I was out with friends last night and they couldn't believe I was going to work when I got home. xx

Twisted Dave 01-14-2010 05:43 AM

Yeah I get that all the time ... after going out I often come home and work (I don't drink anymore). :) But I like working anyway.

D Ghost 01-14-2010 05:53 AM

Friends mostly jealous...

Bossman 01-14-2010 06:03 AM

After several years doing that, then I return to normal hours. Best thing I have done in years :thumbsup

BlackCrayon 01-14-2010 06:22 AM

i used to get up around 1-5pm and be up until 8am or so but that was years ago. these days im up more usual hours and i have to say i feel better overall. my friends used to give me shit that i would never answer the door for them because i was always alseep and stuff but usually they just wanted to get stoned or go drinking when they should be working so i never gave it much concern.

CaptainHowdy 01-14-2010 06:24 AM

I used to... it stopped when I dumped her.

MissDiva 01-14-2010 07:23 AM

I use to sleep between 4AM and 11AM. The only part of the day i miss is in the morning.

PerrieBelle 01-14-2010 07:41 AM

My Dad seems to think that if you sleep at a different time to 'the norm' then it's bad for you... I don't get it... We're still getting the same amount of sleep as 'the norm' ... It's just at a different time! Lol!

TheDoc 01-14-2010 07:44 AM

Before the introduction of kids, I slept a rolling schedule.. I would work 20-30 hours, sleep 12... no pattern, no set schedule.

It drove everyone nuts, so I kept doing it.... and I liked it :)

rock-reed 01-14-2010 07:52 AM

Some research/information says that as humans we have certain Circadian Rhythms, Have a look at that. It says its better to sleep when dark outside.

Personally, I get up around 7, I get out of Bed around 9, I don't worry about nothing, because worrying is a waste of my time.

Sarah_Jayne 01-14-2010 07:52 AM

For me it is mostly the 'hey can you just do this for me' thing. People appear to think I can just stop working every ten minutes because I don't work out of the house.

Tjeezers 01-14-2010 10:12 AM

The ones who claim to have never lust for sleep are those who sleep all day

chupachups 01-14-2010 10:13 AM

I ALWAYS get that shit...

Sly 01-14-2010 10:20 AM

Learn how to use the word "no" and what friends and family think of your work schedule will not matter.

BillyHoe 01-14-2010 10:23 AM

I get it all the time. I love working odd hours I get more done. The phone doesn't ring, messengers are quiet :) I often goto bed as everyone else is waking up.

Barefootsies 01-14-2010 10:24 AM

I get shit from everyone all the time.

Friends and family who can never reach me when they think I should be up. Whether I am sleeping until noon, or taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon. My schedule varies based on what I am working on.

My actual work day is 2-4 hours, 5 days a week. However, I may work a few hours then take a nap. Go to the casino. Or do some errands, hang with friends, come back, work some, nap, whatever.

Some of the people I do consulting gigs with, or those I work with like borked/konrad/Prezz are from Europe. So sometimes I stay up to talk to them first thing in the day (their time) and then go to bed early morning.

I like the freedom my life affords me. For those who complain, fuck 'em.
:2 cents:

Mr Gump 01-14-2010 10:35 AM

I get that shit too all the time, especially from my GF who mentioned to me what someone said before, its better to sleep when its dark outside. What I do is i have weeks of regular schedule when doing freelance, and my own crazy schedule when working on my own projects.

So you don't need nothing but a good time? ;)

CyberHustler 01-14-2010 10:54 AM

I get the following:

"You ever thought about getting a real job?"

"All you do is sit on your ass all day doing nothing! How are you tired?"

"You can baby sit, go to the store, do all my and everyone elses errands because you don't do shit else anyway!"

"How do you feel like a man knowing your wife goes out and busts her ass at a real job all day while you play on the computer?"

"Why don't you go to school so you can get an actual career?"

NaughtyRob 01-14-2010 11:09 AM

Yeah my wife bugs me about it, but before she and I were together it was worse, I used to start at 10 am and work till 2 am. Now I start at about 10 am and stop at about 8 pm.

hehe ... great tune :)

But I don't agree with the research because I find I get a much fresher sleep if I sleep from morning til afternoon. I feel SO much better than if I wake in the morning. I don't know why. I just love waking in the afternoon :)

FrozenJag 01-14-2010 02:01 PM

Nobody gives me any shit because they know I dont give a fuck what they think.

My girl wouldnt say anything because she understands me and how i work. If we are wanting to be rich one day you gotta put the work in. On the flip side I make sure and make time for her, I think thats really important to keep your relationship strong.

My family I keep in the dark pretty much. Nobody really knows anything about what I do.

I normally work about noon to 3 am unless I have to help out at my offline business. Then im off to bed at 3am and getting up at 6:30 or 7:00 am. :x Sometimes though I'll just decide to take a couple days completely off. Im really inconsistent but consistently work alot if that makes sense. :P

Its research. It's kind of hard to disagree with findings of research unless there was a major flaw in the project. You personally may work better with daytime sleep, but most people do not. Sunlight is good for you.

Bird 01-14-2010 02:57 PM

everyday, them 9-5rs just don't know.

So much shit I just stop answering their calls.

Of course ... and as I said ... I get more sunlight than office workers ;)

But, also ... it's research? Do you even realise how little these researchers do? They don't interview the whole world. They do tests on a miniscule fraction of any kind of population. What if they just got all the people who do better in the day? :P There might be a ton of people like me who sleep better in the day.

I get up in the late morning or early afternoon, and I often go out before work ... I get more sunlight than most :)

Phoenix 01-14-2010 03:03 PM

do they help pay your bills?

if not..then dont bother listening to them :)

Dcat 01-14-2010 03:10 PM

I remember years back, my schedule started getting later, and later until it finally wrapped right around the clock completely. I started going to bed at 2:00am, then 5:00am, then 9:00am, then noon, ..and so on. Sleeping all day, up all night. In time I made my way right around the clock until it re-aligned again where I'd be getting up around 8-9am like most 9-5er's.

..Now I'm back on schedule with the rest of the world. It's where That is where I will stay. I couldn't stand never seeing friends, not seeing the sun, missing the bank ..etc.

18teens 01-14-2010 03:12 PM

It's nobody's business. I go to bed when I want and get up when I want. If anyone tried giving me shit about it they'd just be wishing they were me.

goldfish 01-14-2010 03:38 PM

I work from 11am to 2-3am usually and wouldn't have it any other way.

When ppl around me mention my "odd" schedule I just point out to them that they work for someone else, that I have wonderful tan and that I live at the beach and they, well, don't and can't.
