Office Chair... Opinions??

Hey Guys,

I'm looking at getting a new chair for the office... I know quite a few people with the Hermen Miller Aeron and they are great but have just seen the Hermen Miller Mirra...

has anyone sat in a Mirra or own one?

12clicks 01-14-2010 07:19 AM

F that. :)
mojo and I have been sitting in leather chairs that look like Dr. Evil chairs for 10 years.
Comfotable as hell

pornguy 01-14-2010 07:24 AM

I need a new chair as well.

bronco67 01-14-2010 07:30 AM

I'm interested too...I hate my chair, but I'm not too crazy about aerons also.

CaroMark 01-14-2010 07:42 AM

Can you link what you are looking at?

Best of luck in finding a great working chair.

I have always had leather chairs. The more expensive ones are great to sit on if you work long hours at the desk

intellichat 01-14-2010 10:07 AM

This is the Hermen Miller Aeron

The aeron is comfy as hell, but the Mirra looks like it could be as good if not better...

intellichat 01-14-2010 10:09 AM

hey *******, that's great to know :thumbsup thanks

dready 01-14-2010 10:20 AM

I'd go with either a Steelcase Leap, or a Haworth Zody. They are both a generation ahead of the Aeron.

That's a pretty bold statement. What makes them better?

danclips 01-14-2010 11:18 AM

I use a SteelCase Leap and it is without a doubt, the sturdiest and most comfortable chair I have ever owned. When you spend 10+ hours a day on your ass some days, it is essential that you have something decent to sit in. One of the best investments I have made.

Herman Millers are great too, but check them out side by side, and there is no doubt that you will go with the SteelCase. the biggest draw back is the weight. This beast weighs 50-lbs easy.

What I mean is that Aeron was designed well over a decade ago now. It was 'the' chair for cool geeks during the dot com boom and was mostly form over function. The technology has come a long way since then and Steelcase / Haworth are the leaders. Ok the Aeron mesh is good for farting through, nobody can deny that, or maybe if you're in a very hot environment and sweat a lot.

I own the Leap, and it's great, though if I was to replace it, I'd like to try the Zody.

X37375787 01-14-2010 11:43 PM

I find the Aeron to be stellar. We have three in our office and I couldn't imagine sitting on anything else.

intellichat 01-26-2010 10:04 AM

I went with the Aeron & it turned up this morning... Arhh I love this chair already!!

How's it holding up?

I really like this one from Ikea- http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/70117761

http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/68398_PE182536_S3.jpg

Sat in it the other week, very nice. Really dig it but the fabric choices it comes in are poor. Almost like felt. Don't want to drop $400 - $500 on a chair cat would destroy in less than a month. Need industrial vinyl or leather to stand up to the beasts.

gleb 01-26-2010 11:29 AM

I like my Aeron chair though its probably dated by now, might be something better out there.

Miller was another choice but Aeron reviews seemed more solid.

Chair just can't be comfortable.

BVF 01-26-2010 11:43 AM

I just have a basic leather high back leather swivel/tilt office chair that I got from Office Max.....It's done me very well.

riddler 01-26-2010 11:49 AM

I must be one of the rare ones the Aerons make my legs go numb..

aerons do force you to sit using proper posture, anything else is uncomfortable

but thats a plus i think

I've got a SEALY POSTUREPEDIC Executive Highback chair that I am quite pleased with ...

I am a BIG boy, and have some circulatory problems in my legs (venous insufficiency), and the waterfall seat design, along with the fully adjustable lumbar support, and the fact they were not stingy at all on the padding, makes this a very comfortable chair!!

It's Black supple leather ... and the inlay is preforated leather so you don't stick to it in the summer! My base is a nickel plated finish, with black kickplates at the end of each point/leg - not chrome like this one pictured (the nickel looks a lot more distinguished IMHO)

I picked up the Herman Miller Equa 2 from Costco a few months ago, and I fucking love it.

I have Herman Miller Aeron, it's really comfortable but that hard plastic edge on the seat part that frames the fiber hurts the hamstrings if you sit in it long enough, had to go to the doctor because of probs due to this chair. But if you're not like me and don't plan on spending crazy hours with your butt planted on it, it's pretty damn awesome.

I'm suddenly very aware my Aeron doesn't have chrome legs. :321GFY

I have an Aeron and love it..is the Mirra new? I haven't heard of it.

slapass 02-01-2010 05:03 AM

I have a Hermen Miller Aeron in each house but you should have a ball or a totally different chair as a backup so that you can switch off when you are doing those 80 hour weeks.

That's a nice chair......But have you ever thought of getting your big ass out of that chair and getting some exercise so that you DON'T have circulatory problems?

not to bump his 10 day old thread but maybe this will help someone:

i used Putty ssh client (which does not save password)

went with SecureCRT 6.5 ($100 or so for a license)

combine that with Workspace Macro Pro 6.5 and with 1 click, all your sessions are restored within seconds and positioned on your dedicated screen for terminal windows... saves a bit of time and looks awesome =)
