Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies went to the home of 33-year-old Tanya Nareau on Tuesday after receiving a tip about the swap.

At Nareau's home, a family friend who had the child confirmed to deputies that Nareau gave the girl to him for a gun.

Deputies say Nareau felt that the friend would do a better job of raising the child.

They say Nareau also claimed she could not buy a weapon because she's prohibited from doing so by law.

Authorities say Nareau has been taken into custody. She has been charged with the unlawful sale of a child and solicitation to possess a weapon by a prohibited person.

It wasn't clear whether Nareau had a lawyer.

Dunno which is worse...her for trading her kid for the gun, or the friend trading the gun for her kid. Hopefully it was the friend that tipped the police off and they weren't legitimately wanting that trade.
