Would you live in Vegas?

Looks like Internext was a success and many webmasters were there.

However, would you actually LIVE in Vegas?

Why not? Why yes?

seeandsee 01-18-2010 07:18 AM

Why not?

I cant :(

NetHorse 01-18-2010 07:23 AM

No..You have Las Vegas, then a bunch of empty fucking desert and a couple of cactus. Besides everytime I go there and it's time to leave I can't WAIT to get home, maybe it's just because I booze & spend way too much..

Semi-Retired-Dave 01-18-2010 07:27 AM

If I lived there, then where would I go to get away from it all. lol

Indeed, however the desert climate is great for asthmatics, which is a problem in my family.

And there's a lot more to it than the strip.

Jarmusch 01-18-2010 07:50 AM

With a gambling problem, it would be best not to.

Sosa 01-18-2010 07:54 AM

I don't think I would have a problem living outside in one of the nicer suburbs / communities.

beta-tester 01-18-2010 07:59 AM

I'd probably rather not living there. I like the city a lot, but it's just a getaway city IMO. It's good to visit it every now and then, but to live there I don't think so.

bloggerz 01-18-2010 08:11 AM

just came home from there yesterday and i miss it already. but no i wouldnt live there

Waddymelon 01-18-2010 08:17 AM

There's no fucking way I'd live there.

Scott McD 01-18-2010 08:34 AM

Been a few times. I think i would like to live there. Sure as hell better than here anyway!

pretty much the same for me. one year i went for like 10 days and cut it short and left 2 days early. can only take so much of that town :1orglaugh

at the same time, Vegas is my "getaway" spot and everytime i go there i know im going to have an amazing time. i wouldnt want to ruin it and move there

ShellyCrash 01-18-2010 08:48 AM

Vegas is a fun place to visit but a shitty place to live. Too much crime.

J. Falcon 01-18-2010 08:52 AM

I don't think so, no.

I hear a lot of people say similar things. What is it that makes you feel like that though? Too much partying? Gambling? Too busy?

Last time i went for 10 days i felt it went in too quickly and wanted to stay longer and check out some more stuff...

SykkBoy 01-18-2010 09:12 AM

I live here and enjoy it, but of course I live way out by Lake Mead and never really go on the strip or anywhere near where the tourists hang out. I stick to locals casinos and out in this area, it doesn't even feel like Vegas...I live in a neighborhood full of 9 to 5ers.

NaughtyRob 01-18-2010 11:29 AM

I do live here and I never go to The Strip. Only when people from out of town come here. And that makes it just like any other big city... besides the fact that I CAN go down there anytime and that is sweet! Been here since 2002.

Evil Chris 01-18-2010 11:34 AM

Henderson is nice.

dry air is good for asthmatics? news to me... always thought humid air was best.

Alky 01-18-2010 11:41 AM

I grew up in atlantic city... I know it's not Vegas, but pretty much the same lifestyle. Some people have issues with living that close to 24 hour anything... if you have self control, go for it... if you don't... probably best just to go visit.

RyuLion 01-18-2010 11:42 AM

No...........to much bad influence..

Actually from a medical point of view you're right.

But dry hot air is better than wet hot air.

And my point was that in my particular situation there are allergies to blooming plants. And since there's not much blooming in the desert, it makes sense.

Yup, same thing I was thinking.

The suburbs around the strip look really nice.

Sebastian Sands 01-18-2010 12:01 PM

I live here and love it. I am not on the strip much and those who say I can not stay longer then X days probably spend that time on the strip which results in financial setback(99% of the time) and lots of drinking going out to eat etc.

But living in Vegas (Henderson actually) is pretty nice, if I want to go and have Sushi somewhere at 3:30 am then I can find a place and get it. When I lived in Holland I lived in a place that if you didn't get your pizza order in before 9pm then that was is..lol

btw this desert does not have cactus everywhere, you are confused with Arizona.

MaDalton 01-18-2010 12:06 PM

no thanks - too hot

and the permanent "ding-ding-ding" everywhere drives me nuts

Actually, you'll find a whole new set of allergies here in the desert ;-)
all of the dust, pollution and the construction (which causes a lot of contaminants to get into the air) cause other issues and ailments.

MichaelP 01-18-2010 12:27 PM

Too HOT in Summer and Too Cold in Winter... Nope :)

DirtyDanza 01-18-2010 12:28 PM

i do live here

xNetworx 01-18-2010 12:32 PM

I personally wouldnt want to live there but I've seen some nice places to live there. Most people I know there only go to the strip once in a while.

fatfoo 01-18-2010 12:33 PM

I have never been there.

baddog 01-18-2010 02:46 PM

The weather sucks there.

TheDoc 01-18-2010 02:48 PM

I lived in Vegas, loved it... 3am get food, drinks, party, rub down, or pay someone to pickup food for you, everything you could ever want or dream of at your finger tips... love it I say! But then we had kids, and that's just a nuts place to have kids, so we moved.

But we will be back!

Vegas Ken 01-18-2010 02:58 PM

I live in Vegas and LOVE IT!!!!

Where'd you move and why?

Darby 01-18-2010 03:37 PM

I love it here....I rarely go to the strip, only when visitors arrive.

Antonio 01-18-2010 03:56 PM

depends, how much do the whores charge in Vegas?

NaughtyRob 01-18-2010 04:00 PM

The weather is phenomenal here...
If you like heat summer is great, if you don't you get used to it.... think about it, air conditioned cars, air conditioned homes, so what if its 110 outside. Better than 10 degrees in the east in the winter...

And our winter, pretty much in the 60's and 40's at night. Its awesome.

There is nothing awesome about what you described. Perhaps you came from somewhere with worse weather, but there is nothing awesome about Vegas weather.

The lifestyle we lived did not mix well with children... and we weren't going to stop simply because we had kids. So we moved to Tucson, Az... much better weather, cheaper, traffic jam is 15 mins long and Vegas is only an hour plane flight away.

We moved from Tucson to Vegas.. weather is pretty damn similar.. In Tucson, its a little cooler in the summer, a little warmer in the winter, and you get a little more rain than Vegas.

Hate the traffic in Tucson, no developed freeway system sucks.

I personally love the desert heat.

Vegas winters killed me, windy as piss and colder than I ever thought it would be, you can't really play golf in the Winter unless you're a trooper.. (yes I play when it's 100+). outside of that I loved it..

We live east of Tucson, I have to run my AC for about 2, maybe 3 months and my heater about 2 months. And the monsoons, I love'em.. middle of summer, 110 out, rains role in and the temp drops to the 70's, best time of year!

They have 19 and 10 fully open now, 3 to 4 lanes, 65 all the way through.. I can get from the east side to the west in about 20 mins now..

Beaver Bob 01-18-2010 04:44 PM

Yea, Vegas is easily the windiest place I've ever lived. Tucson is also a great place, and could easily see myself moving back there someday.

I love statements like these. If you live in North Las Vegas or travel a couple blocks off the strip, you have some crime. It's just like any other big city. Where I live is nothing but rainbows and unicorns.

I can handle the heat, as I work inside during the days and summer nights are AWESOME.

I can handle the cold, as I quite enjoy wearing jackets and beanies.

I was born here, so the strip is just there for tourists. Gambling is never an attraction, as I've seen it ruin so many.

Snowboarding is 2 hours away in any direction...The beach is 3 hours away...The lake is 45 minutes away.

Housing is VERY affordable now.

The 24 hour convenience is unparalleled anywhere else, and we have some of the best restaurants in the nation.

As for raising a child, I am about to do so...We have 1 private park and 2 public parks in a 2 mile radius, the schools nearby are top notch, and there are so many great activities in this city for them to experience.

...And today is one of the rare rainy days where I can open the window and feel the nice breeze and fresh smell!
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b133/syn0r/homes.jpg

P.S. I was born and raised here, and as much as I want to experience other cities, I can't imagine ever leaving here for good.

SykkBoy 01-18-2010 04:49 PM

and today it's raining, but at least there's no snow...
