2010 Porsche 911 Turbo - crazy car

So my local Porsche dealership invited me to their Porsche Events to experience the improvements in the 2010 911 turbo. Not really sure what "improvements" they made as I never drove the 2009 version however this car is unreal.

0.60 in 3.2 sec. is crazy fast and how they get all this performance from a 3.8 litre engine is amazing. Quicker than those american "sports" cars with engines twice the size...

btw, most of the color choices are tasteless.

$143k is a lot of money for a car you are right, however it's a lot of car for the money. Car's with similar performance are way more $$$$.

DateDoc 01-18-2010 10:46 AM

How was the new shifter on the steering wheel or was it a standard 6-speed?

it had the optional PDK which is a favorite gear box by far..

Great review on another amazing car.

With 5,000 rpm wound on the engine, you sidestep the brake and are launched with incredible intensity--the sort that sends your head careening back into the headrest and your stomach wishing it was somewhere else. :)

If you have the means and don't want to die wondering, it's a must. Whether you'll manage to hold on to your driver's license for long, though, is doubtful.

The turbo probably helps :winkwink:

MaDalton 01-18-2010 11:18 AM

i had the pleasure recently to experience that car - driven by one of the most famous Ralley drivers of all times. let's say: very intense experience

yes - and no. The Porsche GT3 has no turbo and is still faster than most others :)

and it sounds better than the turbo - here's something i recorded last weekend

Back in 1985 the stupid "Americans" had a nice little 3.8L turbo engine that raped 911Ts of it's time in a little old Buick for 1/5th the price. :)

Look at the Corvette Z06, yes it's 7.0L, but it's naturally aspirated, gets 30mpg+ on the expressway and has a huge powerband all the way to 7,000rpms, (no turbo lag).

The 911 turbo is AN AMAZING car, but please don't talk like Americans are retarded and just use big engines. There are a lot of trade offs to have a small high tech turbo'd motor. Americans build affordable sports cars that are still scary fast, not $160,000 cars that when they brake down you need to take a 2nd mortgage on your house.

Nad 01-18-2010 11:57 AM

Neighbor just picked up the GT3 - amazing car.. loud and fun to ride in.... wicked fast

x2. it's not accurate to compare any and all "american "sports" cars with engines twice the size" to a $175,000 top of the line porsche.

but feel free to compare the zr1 to it at a $125,000 and comparable perf.

btw - i agree - and many of the Porsche guys on that event where i was too: the ZR1 is definitely a great sportscar and compared to the Porsches a real bargain.

I think this car looks cool.

I loved this style headlight

try driving around a corner in a z06.. does it even have a limited slip diff. yet ?

stever 01-18-2010 02:04 PM

hey MaDalton

I don't think that dirty gray one is the newest judging by the rear spoiler (btw get a car wash lol)

i have an 07
it looks exactly the same

i think they just made the 2010 one 3.8 500 hp where as the previous was 3.6 480hp
maybe they changed the rear spoiler too? do you know what else they changed?

trevesty 01-18-2010 02:11 PM

Very nice car

themadwriter 01-18-2010 02:18 PM

fucking hot car indeed!

haha - i was at something called "Winter Drift" - a driver training on 50 cm thick ice. And the turbo belongs to Walter Röhrl - the famous german ralley driver who works for Porsche. And it was indeed the new one - with shifting paddles. the same car with those license plates i saw in a car magazine a week earlier.

and he told us, besides the engine changes, the PDK with paddles was the biggest change. something he always insisted on but never got approved by Wiedeking, the former CEO.

here's me with Walter Röhrl and my Quattro ;)

stever 01-18-2010 02:30 PM

you mean its not stick anymore? paddles on the wheel like ferrari has?
that is one of the main reasons i like it so much is because it has a clutch/shifter

stever 01-18-2010 02:36 PM

haha that article is funny
Whether you'll manage to hold on to your driver's license for long, though, is doubtful.

I speed all the time and never got pulled over except one time some old cop just wanted to see the inside and asked what model it was

of course you can order stick if you like - but try the PDK (double clutch gearbox) if you get a chance. those who have it love it - it's like the best of both worlds

Another ridiculous assumption by the ignorant! :1orglaugh The Z06 ran the Nurburgring 7:42, pulls over 1.03Gs on the skidpad and it's lighter than EVEN the GT3 with 505hp.

Here are the official Nurburgring lap times for production cars..The ZR1 which is a Z06 with a supercharger and a few other upgrades RAPES the 911 Turbo, GT2, GT3 & GT3RS.

Close to the same performance, less than half the price, it gets 30mpg+ and if something breaks it's just a little old naturally aspirated pushrod V8. Not a high tech, high revving little 6 with turbos that costs $35,000 to replace.

Spunky 01-18-2010 10:07 PM

Looks kinda cool,pricey though

Major (Tom) 01-18-2010 10:15 PM

I want to ditch my 07 twin turbo for a gt 2 :)

what i don't get is:

I am Porsche fan and owner, i love these cars. But i can accept that there are cars that are faster, or cheaper, or whatever.

why are there always people like you that become religiously fanatic to defend a piece of metal? you sound like an Apple fanboi on Heroin

and btw - no professional driver takes the Nürburgring lap times 100% serious because it depends on the tires, the weather, the outside temperature etc.

you would only get reliable results when you had the same driver on the same day with the same tires driving all those different cars.

you need to relax.

NBBCash Matze 01-19-2010 06:29 AM

the Audi Quattro is cool, nice picture :) . The "winter drift" was great fun I guess.

Exactly.

Also some cars a way easier to drive fast than others, the times a professional racing driver can do with the right tires and conditions is a far stretch from what the average joe can do.

The great thing about the 911 is it is easy to drive fast, something you could not say about it 20 years ago.

No, trust me I love Porsche's, I would rather have a 911 over any Corvette ANY day of the week. I just hate the ignorant morons who think, "Corvettes can't turn" or, "they need a big engine to compete"..

I didn't mean to come off as a fanboy, I'm simply posting real numbers to show the wannabe car enthusiasts who think a Z06 "doesn't have a limited slip diff" what they're truly capable of. They're bargain sports cars, while they do truly have the performance of many exotics they are obviously not as refined, (in the end you get what you pay for).
