Question for you all before I blast this person

I bought an IM ad on a monthly basis from a site that is getting 10k+ uniques a day and 50k+ page impressions a day by their count.

I have been averaging 18 clicks a day!

To me this seems like complete BS! Just wondering what other people think.

Its a basic SS IM ad.

seeandsee 01-18-2010 06:01 PM

how much ads impressions you got every day ???

DateDoc 01-18-2010 06:02 PM

Seems low to me.

epitome 01-18-2010 06:04 PM

I just looked at yesterday's stats for one of my 10k sites.

10,476 unique visitors, 31,830 page views. Facebook IM ad that goes to a dating sponsor. 69 clicks yesterday.

HookUp411 01-18-2010 06:05 PM

I can't tell impressions on the ads, I dont see those stats.

madawgz 01-18-2010 06:06 PM

dont buy that traffic again then

kush 01-18-2010 06:07 PM

Basically 1 out of 500+ uniques is clicking the IM ad?

Seems pretty low to me.

As we all know, Alexa sucks when it comes to guessing the traffic of a site and two similar sites can have very different numbers.

However, if it helps you any (to compare to the site you're buying from that is supposed to have similar daily traffic to mine), the 7-day Alexa rank for my site is 137,181.

What's the ad look like? Shitty ads get low clicks

WiredGuy 01-18-2010 06:10 PM

Is this based on what the sponsor reports or your own tracking?

Very true. The only luck I've had is with Facebook style ads and even that is only moderate luck.

fatfoo 01-18-2010 06:13 PM

Be careful if you buy something based on impressions. Clicks are unpredictable.

If really want to, you can buy something on a per click basis.

JD 01-18-2010 06:16 PM

there could be 100+ reasons as to why the ad is preforming so poorly.

dav3 01-18-2010 06:16 PM

Reminds me of one of the link sellers on here that boasts 1 million views/day, then you get 20 clicks/day that bounce.

BillyHoe 01-18-2010 06:18 PM

I wouldn't bitcht hem out, but I'd definitely ask for a click thru ratio, and impression count.

TidalWave 01-18-2010 06:18 PM

I find it hard to believe anyone clicks on ads anymore actually lol

HookUp411 01-18-2010 06:19 PM

well I spend quite a bit of money on IM ads a month. This is the first real time I have been burned like this. Every site has different results I guess.

He did provide me with stats, but nothing that said these are stats for this url.

I don't have much experience with IM ads. I saw everybody using them last year so I tried them out for a couple of months. Didn't do shit. But it did piss people off that wrote me. I would guess that they aren't much good. I'm sure that the first time people ever saw them they might have gotten some clicks, and maybe even a signup. But now...everybody on the internet knows what they are and I doubt that anybody would click them. But that's just my observation, not backed up with any recent stats.

candyflip 01-18-2010 06:25 PM

How much did the ad cost you and how much did you make back.

It could be your ad that isn't pulling the clicks.

You've got a full month to figure it out.

Lassitor 01-18-2010 06:34 PM

Show me the site, show me the ad, and tell me how much you paid.

A good im add will get 2% click thrus, even a shitty one should get .50 % CTR

Barefootsies 01-18-2010 06:46 PM

Siggen ze Spottin.

freewebhookup 01-18-2010 07:01 PM

I think this works out to around 0.0036% CTR

Not going to show the ad because of the url. If this is just a random bad experience and I have had a lot of good experiences there is no reason for me to drag anyones name through to trash.

Its the standard sexsearch IM ad

dav3 01-18-2010 09:09 PM

lol, did you forget to switch usernames?
