When building new blogs..

Is it best to purchase a domain and use a cms to host the blog. Or, would it be better to sign up for a free blog host?

I know the advantange to having a domain, but was wondering if using a free blog is better for seo.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

I'd go for your own domain. It's better to have more control.

Go for your own domain and make about 10 posts to each free blog sites... never update those posts. The purpose is for seo, since they've been around the web for years now - having a high PR site pointing to your site gives you a bit of a nudge up the se's.

Good luck :thumbsup hope that helps.

only your own domains, and if you link correctly you will get better position in SE.
Good luck :)

I would use both: my domains for main blogs and fre hosted blogs for splogs.

novanuke 01-25-2010 07:34 PM

no doubt about it, more is best!

As already mentioned, use your own domain and supplement it with free blog hosts.

Never use a free blog host...ever. Domains and hosting are so cheap I can't think of a reason to use one.

What he said.

I have 30 hand written blogs on their own domains and now I'm starting to feed them with free hosted blogs. I will use 2-3 free hosted blogs providers. I'll add as many free hosted blogs as I can, giving my other blogs as many backlinks as possible

How many posts will you add to each of the free blog before you're satisfied that you've done enough? I know it's an ongoing process, but is there a number you'd get to where you would start slowing down on posting on a certain blog, and start another new one?

Thanks again everyone. I have learned quite a bit since joing gfy.

Your own domain, hosting and the best to use is WordPress

Nodtveidt 01-28-2010 07:45 PM

Echo what most everyone's said so far. It's much better to have your own domain and hosting, as you get more control. You're also less likely to be booted for whatever lame reason they come up with this week to clean out accounts. I use WordPress for my blogs, and as long as you keep it updated, it's a great system to use.

I post to my blogs on different schedules, ranging from daily to every 3 days, depending on the traffic and sales. The ones with more traffic are the ones I post to more often as they're the ones generating revenue.

Buy an AGED domain.

Host it on YOUR server.

Use WP and use SEO/Sitemap plugins.

Pray tell, what is an "aged" domain?

Free hosted blogs... Good idea, because they are free.

HomerSimpson 02-10-2010 05:45 PM

well depends...

there are people that have 1000's of free blogs and are making cash with no expeces...
and then again you can buy domains + hosting build it that way...

it's really a matter of choice...

KingRedOnion 02-12-2010 04:22 PM

free hosted blogs are all well and good, but when the host goes offline for 3 weeks all you can do is bitch and moan on his forums.

And if he loses all your work... well, tough shit right?

free's free.

If you are going to put any form of effort in then you need to own and control it.

That situation happened not long back with thumblogger.

mikke 02-12-2010 05:21 PM

own domain (godaddy with coupon or moniker) and shared hosting for start (later buy dedicated server).. i prefer wordpress with my plugins ;)

thats all..

oh.. content is the king ;)

Andy22 11-29-2010 12:54 PM

both obviously :)

pornguy 11-30-2010 10:37 AM

Using a free host means you share the IP and that can cause you a lot of issues for SEO.

Talk with Cyberwurx about hosting. I have been with them 10 years.
