Social Network will overtake Search Traffic soon?

If you believe HITWISE, the answer is a resounding YES: http://weblogs.hitwise.com/alan-long/2010/01/post.html

That's gonna be quite a feat because global search volume is at 29 MILLION searches A MINUTE! Damn! :eek2:eek2:eek2

The question is. When ppl want info. Will they search their friends comments for products or still use SEs?

The value from search traffic versus social traffic is still dramatically higher though.

How would that work exactly? let's assume I want to buy a new PS3... there's nothing right now that's "instant" that can give me a review of PS3 on any social network. I'd have to post that I was buying one, and wait for responses. Now if your patient.. sure no problem, but if your not, search is still the preferred method I think.

Yea, they need more social sites where people don't post pointless shit. Yelp is a good start and there'll surely be others. That's when social media will actually hit the next level, because then you're either searching on search engines for opinions/reviews from people you don't know, or searcing on social networks for the same from people you do know or at worst "are connected with".

google will just kill their se traffic before that happens lol

search engines are here to stay, the user based review stuff is something people are starting to hate as you end up sitting at home doing and buying nothing as regardless what your looking for some love it some hate it

True. But this will probably change as more psychospecific targeting technologies are adopted by social network/social media sites.

Watch your kids if you have them, watch other people's kids if you don't.

Agreed the key question is value. But yes it appears that social is taking over SE.
