Samsung Monitors Are Junk...

Ok so in the last year I've had 3 Samsungs fail on me... one still working...

#1. 20" completely stopped working on DVI (6 months ago) - 2 years old
#2. 25" completely stopped working on DVI (2 months ago) - 3 months old
#3. 24" will not even power up, just has a quick flashing light (yesterday) - 1 1/2 years old
#4. 24" still working fingers crossed...

Just ordered a Dell 3008wfp... hopefully it's not a huge pile of crap like the Samsungs have been :Oh crap

It's funny I've always heard how good Samsungs were, now looking into it, seems tons of people are having issues.

I'm like an abused wife, I almost ordered a Samsung 305t last night... then I read it doesn't even have on screen menus, you can only adjust brightness, and it's not HDCP... lol

Iron Fist 01-25-2010 07:06 AM

I have a 22" ACER and have never had problems, bought it a year and a half ago... just a beautiful monitor and I like the style of the feet.

The Duck 01-25-2010 07:17 AM

My samsung lcd has bee working fine for years.

Slick 01-25-2010 07:17 AM

Wow, that's some bad luck. I had a 22" Samsung SynMaster and it shit out on me after 2 years, so now I'm using a 24" LG Flatron W2452T and it's pretty amazing.

It's just odd how their monitors suck, I have 3 LCD tvs and they've been working great.

Klen 01-25-2010 07:21 AM

I have samsung syncmaster 913n 19" works like a charm for five years now.

dav3 01-25-2010 07:26 AM

I've only had one Samsung monitor and it's been great for almost 4 years. Although, it did develop 1 dead pixel after 2½-3 years.

awxm 01-25-2010 07:30 AM

226BW still going strong here.

barelist 01-25-2010 07:35 AM

Yeah Samsungs must hate me :(

Raf1 01-25-2010 07:35 AM

I always had Iiyamas, but the new dell I got a few months ago is pretty cool. Not high end, but good enough for what I use it for.

My Acer monitor is only 19", but it still looks great after almost three years.

I have one of those, plus three others (different models) and never had an issue with any of them. Some I have had for at least 3-5 years. They have some of the best color, I have found, in the monitors without going super high end.

:2 cents:

i have 2 samsungs, they suck balls

bronco67 01-25-2010 08:34 AM

My Samsung TV works great, but I've never used one of their monitors.

Les Grossman 01-25-2010 08:37 AM

Maybe you're having some sort of power spikes in your house that is killing them. It is a little odd for all of them to die like that. It doesn't take much of a spike to kill something, while not killing everything you have. I'd look into getting a power regulator and quality surge protector BEFORE you plug in your next monitor.

I can attest to this fact.

I blew out 2 home theaters with an electrical problem in my basement, until I finally got it looked at by a pro.

Have a big APC 1500 :)

The 25" didn't fail at my house :(

The 20" works fine on VGA when connected on a guest laptop downstairs, but will not function at all on DVI any more.

Read about some complaints with samsung monitors... seems to be a little higher than other brands.

My wife has a cheap 22" LG that has been going strong on the same APC :(

Brand new house, I have some extremely high end electronics, esp. audio and video equipment, actually had an electrian out two times to look over the office, master bedroom, and living room and make sure everything is kosher. They're all on apcs too :)

Those 3 plugs in those three rooms are on their own 20amp breaker :)

MagicMediaPictures 01-25-2010 08:46 AM

Why did you bought 3 if they kept failing ? :))

Twisted Dave 01-25-2010 08:48 AM

Always loved Samsung. Beautiful color reproduction, amazing build quality and perfect design :) That said ... I'm only talking about my own monitos/TVs... I feel bad that you've had such a bad run.

LOL...

The only failure I had was the 20" not working in DVI. It wasn't the end of the World.

The 25" and the new 24" I bought next around the same time. When the 25" starting having issues it didn't bother me much, but when the 24" completely died it started worrying me because I had just bought another 24" to use with it in dual monitor setup.

Kind of just snowballed all at once lol :1orglaugh

woj 01-25-2010 09:09 AM

never had any problems with any of monitors and I had quite a few over the years... maybe your power is bad, maybe power spikes are frying your monitors? maybe try getting a UPS setup?

_Richard_ 01-25-2010 09:20 AM

man.. i hope you just have very bad luck

qwe 01-25-2010 09:24 AM

so far my samsung 26" is rock solid, it's been few years now I believe (knock on wood)

Seems a lot of people have these fail and then dealing with Samsung is a whole different story... :Oh crap

Zorgman 01-25-2010 09:25 AM

Im in the process of buying a 30" Dell, going from 24" to 30" might be a shock for me. But I have always used Dell Monitors from 2000 onwards. :)

When you get it, tell us your thoughts on its size. I checked out one the other day at the Dell store, it's pretty damn big.

MaDalton 01-25-2010 09:38 AM

i am reading this on a Samsung Monitor...

Have a good friend that bought a 30" Dell 3 years ago, he loves it.

I'll use it with the working 24" Samsung as the second monitor on a GeForce 295 GTX w/ Win 7 ultimate.

Never can have too much screen real estate when you're coding ;)

Should show up by Wednesday. :D

96ukssob 01-25-2010 10:41 AM

really? of all the monitors ive had, Samsung seems to be the best.

I have 3 22" ones running on one pc and 1 22" on a laptop (has fingers crossed!)

before that i had Acer monitors that one crapped out on me a few months after buying.

barelist 01-25-2010 11:09 AM

I had 2 dell's prior to the samsungs... never had a problem.

All my PCs / Laptops are Alienware and I've never had a problem, but I sure have read about them. My wife has an XPS dell laptop and it's perfect, I had a latitude a few years ago and returned it after 3 days, horrible laptop.

Guess it's just luck of the draw...

The link you posted showed excellent ratings.

Excellent - - - 118Reviews

That was a pretty big percentage compared to the negatives ...

Look a little closer, some people have bought monitors that failed, then recieved new ones that kept failing.

Just giving a little word of caution, since I used to think Samsung was the best as well :(

First off - bad luck there.
I've never had issues w/ Samsung screens, and mine are on 24/7. 4 years ago, I had one's tube go dim - and samsung replaced all THREE that I had, out of warranty, free, next day via courier coming to my house, picking up the old and dropping off the new.

Secondly - bad news. Samsung make all of Dell's LCDs. Sorry about that. So not only did you just buy another Samsung, you paid a premium to have 'DELL' stamped on it :winkwink:

Hey at least the Dell does HDCP and has on screen controls. The 30" Samsung you can't even adjust color settings, just brightness ;-)

Actually got a pretty good coupon from dell since I just bought a M15x laptop, made it cheaper than the Samsung :)

pornask 01-25-2010 12:40 PM

I love my 22". The best monitor I've ever owned. Had it for 2 years and still going strong.

wild johnny 01-25-2010 12:47 PM

I have had my samsung 226BW for a year and a half now and have had zero probs with it.

seeandsee 01-25-2010 12:56 PM

great for me, hope not die soon

barelist 01-25-2010 01:03 PM

Hope everyone is right in this thread for my 2443's sake lol :)

barelist 01-29-2010 08:52 AM

Just got the Dell 3008wfp last night, this thing is a beast :)

Really makes the 24" Samsung I have next to it seem tiny...

I'm hardly using the second monitor now, basically just has outlook and remote desktop on it.

Build quality is amazing too, all brushed aluminum around the bezel. Still getting used to the size and brightness of it. :)

barelist 01-29-2010 09:06 AM

Check out the space you have to work with on a 30" and 24" :D

Great monitor, my wife uses the same. Good colors :thumbsup

Paul&John 01-29-2010 10:18 AM

Got 226CW or something and its fucking awesome!

Cyandin 01-29-2010 11:50 AM

I use twin Samsung 22" 226CW's on my workstation, and a 50" Samsung plasma TV downstairs and I've had 0 problems for over 2 years now.

Samsung is absolutely untouchable in quality, imho.

flip.green 01-29-2010 12:02 PM

I have four that I accumulated over the years. One has to be at least 10 years old, they all still work. But each one has a feature that the other one lacks. I do have one that i really hate though the dvi doesnt work properly on it been that way forever bought it refurbished though so i guess you get what you pay for.

Seems like if they just combined the best features they have with a quality stand they would be top notch.

Ripper - RiotDesign 01-29-2010 12:04 PM

Some samsungs have several troubles : Main is " Resolution ", have like a blured pattern, but I think that maybe this problem is for the cheap line of monitors. I bought an Acer 5 years ago and still working great
