Apple maxIPAD just another homo machine?

I am a die hard Apple fan, and I've got more than a few Macs around here and various other Apple products.... but really? The (max)IPAD?
As if the iPhone wasn't enough of a waste of time & money, now this? A *BIG* iPhone that you will now need a "European" man-bag to carry around?

I think if you buy this thing you should just put the assless chaps on for good and lead the next parade in the Castro.

:2 cents:

StuartD 01-27-2010 02:22 PM

I'm not an Apple fan and find most of their "toys" to be over hyped, over priced... well, toys... nice and all, but nothing to go nuts over like apple fans do.

However, this iPad is very intriguing and I think truly will change a lot in how computing is done, especially portability.

I have a Dell XPS which weighs almost as much as my fridge... granted, it was never intended for carrying around, it's still how many notebooks have gone in their endeavour to be more powerful.

This is the first Apply product that I would truly like to have one of because of how good I think it is.

Well see, that was where you made the mistake.
Apple's Macbook Pros are by far the finest laptops out there, and don't weigh as much as a refrigerator.
iMacs & Mac Pros are nice too. iPods have their place, but the *Touch* version seems like a waste.
iPhones.... well, to each their own, but I find them to be a complete waste of money. Mine is sitting in a drawer.
Apple TV is good, I just wish the connection to the comp (wireless N) was more stable. The last update was supposed to fix that though.
But I'll never buy this pad thing. I see no reason for it unless you are a person with no other electronics.
If you have a smartphone or a laptop of any brand, you're duplicating what you already have.

I feel almost dirty saying this, but I agree with you in all points.

What device will provide the "best online experience" without flash support? Like it or not, but I figured that by 2010, Flash was a quasi requirement for all things Interweb.

I can see it now....

The turtleneck sweater dude, with his Man-Bag slung over his shoulder, which holds his iPad, while texting on his iPhone, carrying an $8 dollar half-caf vanilla latte, bluetooth headpiece on one side, earbud on the other side, with one earbud hanging down in front to give that, "I'm so cool & busy I don't even care" vibe off.

I couldn't design a bigger example of a douchebag at any price. It's already been perfected.

Has duplicating ever really been a problem these days though? How many people have more than one notebook? More than one computer in general?
And if you do have a notebook, how old is it? Chances are, if you bought it in 2009, it is or will be obsolete soon.

I think the key to this iPad will be where Apple's always had a strong market, the schools. I can't tell you how nice this thing would have been when I was in college. To slip it in between my books, put it onto one of those little seminar flip table things no wider than my arm, and begin typing away as the instructor speaks... it would be invaluable.

For those of us who don't have an iPhone, or iMac, or the other toys that you already have lying around, this is perfect because now we don't have to get all those things, we only need one.

flip.green 01-27-2010 02:48 PM

I can see how the concept would be cool, but i will wait till somebody other than apple is making them. A bit too closed off in the hardware architecture department for my tastes.

It's a product I can't see the purpose of owning even if it was free ... And I'm typing this on a mac pro.

I agree with you. I can certainly see myself sitting on the toilet with an Ipad.

k0nr4d 01-27-2010 03:29 PM

Yeah this iPad looks great. I was always thinking of getting an iphone, but the only thing stopping me was the conveniance of being able to fit an iphone in my pocket. Now with this iPad thing out, i can finally purchase an apple product!

This thing is retarded. My 4 or 5 year old toshiba tablet pc running xp tablet edition does more then this. This is just a giant iphone really...

I am so not impressed and the ipad? PAd? that is the best name you could come up with come on.. None of me or my HOMO friends will have them ... probably just douche bag straight men

quiet 01-27-2010 04:23 PM

the main thing that bothers me about it, is that it has to be 'tethered' in some form to another computer. if it had a usb slot and you could back it up on a hard drive, it would render another computer unnessesary (in some ways at least). should have had a camera and video cam built in too. still, it's a very interesting idea, and i think it will be a hit.

quiet 01-27-2010 04:23 PM

yeah, the islate was a much better name.

Hey AMP does your AppleTV run really hot? Mine I can hardly touch most times. Freaking thing is so hot when its in operation that I sometimes turn a fan on it. I guess it makes sense really. You have a drive inside a box with no airholes or heat sinks or anything, and if the drive is reading and writing, well it generates heat.

Yeah, it's always hot. Same with the Time Capsule / Router. I'm kind of surprised they function with that kind of continuous heat.

It's not revolutionary by any means, but it seems like a convenient way to read books, newspapers and magazines while on the go - something I rarely use my laptops for, since those are just a bit too big and heavy to take along to most places.

It also seems like a decent addition to my study books. Those add up to 50+ lbs, so carrying them along simply isn't possible. Taking them along as PDFs, on the other hand...

A decent netbook would also work, but unfortunately I haven't found one yet that's suitable for reading anything more than a webpage.

Right now, though, the lack of multitasking on the iPad is a dealbreaker. I don't care about flash, but not being able to have multiple documents, a webbrowser and a text editing program open at the same time just makes it... useless.

I love the apple toys, but I won't buy the iPad until it has flash and runs open office... I pretty much use my iPod Touch as an expensive alarm clock.
