*Apple dont own any iPad domains - I wonder why they chose the name ?

Interesting Fact;

Apple dont own any iPad domains (known ones) yet they do own iSlate.....just wondering will they buy the domain iPad and wondering why they chose the name they did ?

I'm sure negotiations are ongoing for ipad.com. I own ipadfanboy.com if they want to buy it. :)

tehHinjew 01-27-2010 09:00 PM

I guess they will...just strange they dont seem to appear to own it at present.

What might be interesting to SEO/Domain guys here is that after the annoucement from Apple ..iPad.com became the 18th most visited site today according to Alexa...meaning that people will type in a keyword followed by . com for a product or service they see or want....

Keywords= $$$$$$ ....Branding = $$$$$$$

Holy shit, who owns iPad.com. Im sure that site is getting mass traffic right now not to mention the offers to buy it. Some cancer society is going to make bank pretty soon.

datatank 01-27-2010 09:25 PM

I hope they're holding out for more money :thumbsup

pamon 01-27-2010 09:50 PM

It's owned by a holding company via a Whois search. I'll take 5k and be happy. :)

xxweekxx 01-27-2010 09:54 PM

$5k? id want at least 7 figs.. apple will be willing to pay a high amount for this.. heck if they dont wanna buy, id just make a page around the ipad and information on it, and find an affiliate program that pays per sale, and id probably make an easy few thousand per day.. the traffic that will hit it for the next few yrs will be crazy

pamon 01-27-2010 10:06 PM

Was saying about mine, ipadfanboy.com. Agree ipad.com will sell for nice bucks.

Your "fact" may well be incorrect and there is a chance that apple does hold the domain iPad.com which changed hands last march I believe. The new owner listed in whois is Enero 6. Spanish for January 6th. Rumor is - the holding company name was a tribute to Steve jobs as Jan 6 2009 was the 1st day of his sick leave from apple. Just a rumor but it would not surprise me.

You may very well be correct......although l think if Apple did currently own it maybe they should have put a site up even if it was just a tech/info site to maximise the PR event of today.

One thing you can be sure of...they have a plan of some sort.....

_Richard_ 01-27-2010 10:32 PM

is it possible that they just seize the domain now that Apple have the trademarked product?

They announced changing .mac to me.com and let the old owners of the domain use it for a short while after the announcement. They do not need to maximize the PR event anymore than has been done. We all know to go to apple.com.

My bet is that Apple owns it. If not the current domain/site is not in violation of udrp since it has no ads.

I have delt with apple in the past pertaining to domains and actually found thier legal dept to be very easy going ..on the surface they dont seem that pushy or over interested in trying to force domains from owners...something I didnt expect......although this was just my experience.

The more interesting info is that Fujitsu holds a trademark for ipad http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield...01:o2fc3b.2.12

The possiblity is highly likely....just wondered why they didnt use it or prepare it to go with the launch today...seems a waste.

DateDoc....you comment "They do not need to maximize the PR event anymore than has been done. We all know to go to apple.com " doesnt seem to hold totally when you consider the huge traffic surge to iPad.com
