Breast Implants - How often do they need replacing?

A friend is asking whether she should have her breast implants replaced, and I figured why not ask here. She said she got them done 10 years ago, doctor said they're fine but they recommend to be replaced every 10 years. She has gel ones. Surely there's always risks, both leaving them in for some more years and having more surgeries. Seems hard to trust the doctor who earns his living by replacing them.

Any advice?

Google it!

Probably your best option to be honest... :2 cents:

There is a myth floating around the general community about this one. Often patients will present to their plastic surgeon
stating, "It has been 10 years and I was told I need to have my breast implants
replaced". This is not necessarily the case. Breast implants are not like tires which should be rotated every few thousand miles. The only reasons that implants need to be replaced is if there is are problems related to the implant. These problems can range from rupture, capsular contracture or implant displacement. The rates of these complications varies depending on the type of implant. The good news is that in the event an implant does need to be replaced, implant manufacturers currently replace both saline and silicone breast implants at no charge and will sometimes cover surgeons fees as well.

my Dr. told me that 10 years is about the average for when issues may start to arise. he said they only need replacing if one of the complications has occured ie: the rippling, leakage, encapsulation or in need of a lift. this July will be 10 years for me.
