How long to wait?

I've done some work for an individual over 10 days ago now, and he said he paid weekly, and I did the research on him because of his terms for payment. He said he's got a couple other individuals working with him from here, and after I did the research and seen that he's never ripped anyone off on here from as far as I can tell, I decided to go ahead and do the work for him.

Now, I haven't been able to get in touch with him for the past 10 days now, he left me a message one night at like 3am but it had nothing to do with my payment or anything like that.

So, the question is... how long should I wait to out the guy if he ends up not paying? Between my 2 computers, I have probably 10 attempts to contact him on ICQ over the past few days, and I just emailed him, too. It's been 10 days now and like I said he left me one message but it was irrelevant to my money.

And to the trolls who have been attempting to harass me, don't think it is going unnoticed. You will be handled eventually. So I suggest you keep your little remarks to yourself.

And no I am not giving up any names or anything like that right now.

To be honest even 1 day past the payment promise date is already to long. I mean a deal is a deal and if the deal is not abided by it has been broken.:2 cents::2 cents:

How long to wait before what? Before sending Vinny over? before filing a small claims court tort?

In all honesty, if the guy is not paying you then taking him to court and winning a judgement won't necessarily mean you get paid. Collecting a judgement from a dead-beat is just as hard as to get them to pay in the first place!

I recommend to just keep working with him on the payment. I have had clients pay me 6 months after the work performed because I worked with them, otherwise they would have never paid me. Being reasonable, nice and understanding can get you paid....being a jerk, an asshole or otherwise only brings more trouble.

Though, if you KNOW they won't pay and they have said as much, then sending Vinny over becomes an option :)

That sucks, hopefully this gets squared up.

You shouldn't have done the work.

:2 cents: Even that is to long. The current practice is to now collect full payment BEFORE services rendered. Let the client negotiate for a refund if they feel the work is not to their standards.

All sectors of business are seeing scamming and rip-offs, dead-beats and flakes. You have t protect yourself or YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF.

Sucks to be you, now go away already...

10 days does not sound good - probable that he won't pay. Good luck.

Good luck, I bet the next excuse you'll hear is "I was gonna pay you, but now that you went tot he boards to hell with you"

Have to keep Vinny at home for now... we established contact and everything is clear for now.

Kelli58 01-30-2010 11:33 PM

Well it depends. It's not uncommon at all in the real world to get paid 30 to 45 days after you send the invoice. 10 days by Internet standards may seem like a lifetime but perhaps he is just following standard business practices, where getting paid on an invoice in a month is far more realistic.
