Lumberjacks --> inside: Is this a good price?

Is $80 bucks for a half cord of firewood a good deal?
(part eucalyptus, part oak)

I have 2 fireplaces in here and 10 DuraFlames per day are costing me an arm & a leg.

:helpme

Um yeah dude that's a pretty sweet deal... If you can get a Cord for $200 you're in good shape.

dyna mo 02-04-2010 04:27 PM

i'd make sure that eucalyptus is super dry, if you haven't already.

that shit needs to sit forever before it will burn in your fireplace properly but it does burn nice when dry, snap crackle POP!

Okay cool! My neighbor said a 'cord' would be like one row, ten feet long stacked about 3-4 feet high.... is that right?

Yeah, the eucalyptus is dry. I double-checked :thumbsup

Oh - I might add - Although Eucalyptus smells nice when burning and boy does it burn - Make sure to keep the screen up depending on how long the wood has been drying out - that sap will kick out embers on your floor if it's young wood.

that's what she said.

I'm assuming all of you that came into this thread either are or were Lumberjacks at some point.... lol

A cord is 4 foot by 4 foot by 8 foot. Usually three rows stacked 4 feet high and 8 feet long in 16 inch lengths. If you want the best firewood you can get, get birch, but that'll run you a good $300/cord. Whatever you do, don't be burning poplar.

Hmmm.... so visualizing that, if I got a half cord..... that should fit in my garage easy.

Ya, I know a lot of people who stack a half cord or more inside their garage along a wall without any problems. Just give yourself nice crisscrossed ends and you shouldn't have to worry about things getting away on you and making a mess.

that is a good price , those Duraflames are good but to get a nice fire going and long lasting you need real wood.

This season I was cutting up pallets and used em initally cause i am cheap jew but that wood burns too fast loll

Solar worked on Maui. Not so much here. Too much fog.

Sounds like not a bad deal. But, make sure the guy is not selling "face cords" (they do that around here), which is basically 1/3 of a cord. (Technically, it's 4feet x 8feet x 16inches).

SuzzyQ 02-04-2010 06:30 PM

A cord of wood is 128 cu feet. Use the oak at night and you will have hot coals in the morning. Also, the oak is real good from cooking on or using in a smoker. It gives a sweet taste to meats.

That's actually part of my fears. I don't trust something to burn overnight downstairs while I'm asleep upstairs. What if something pops out?
Plus, I don't need the heat at night upstairs.... only between 5 am and 11 pm downstairs where the fireplaces are. :helpme

Very good price. Do they deliver?

Yes..... they'll drop it in the driveway. I'll have to move it into the garage myself though.
